I have a 2004 Ram 1500 4X4 with the 4.7 ltr motor. 79200 miles. Also it has a MagnaFlo filter going right to the intake. (like a K&N filter) It is clean. It has just started "surging" (cold or hot) when I start the truck. Surges when I stop at lights too. From 600 rpm tp 1100 rpm. Any ideas before I take it to the dealer and get raped? Thanks in advanced. Steve

Doc, I haven't taken it to the shop yet. I don't have the computer myself. The shop wants $40.00 to put it on the "puter". Guess I'll have to go do it huh? Thought there might be a quick resolve to it. "yeah right"?

Get any oil from the filter on any of the sensors?

Oh, I know what you mean now. No oil in throttle body at all. Took off tube and checked this afternoon. I just blew out the filter yesterday and did not ad any extra oil to it. There was not a lot on it anyway. I just oil it enough to coat it. Not enough to suck down inside anyway. Could it be a stuck injector maybe?

Will check it out in the a.m. after dropping daughter off at school. Hmmmm. Didn't think of that at all. Although I'll bet it is and injector stuck. Tried 2 bottles of fuel cleaner. Didn't do anything.

I know other engines have an Idle Air Control solenoid that allows air past the throttle plate at idle. When they get gummed up the idle bounces around just like you're experiencing. The fix is to find and clean it (it's usually on the throttle body). No idea if these engines have it or where it is, but figured I'd throw it out there
If you ever find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

My 2000 Dakota (4.7) used to do this when the O2s went bad but I believe it threw a code when it did.

No Doc I sure don't. Have new problem now. Yesterday I pulled the "Mac" air filter off and cleaned and oiled it. (lightly oiled) The truck idled great without the filter on. Cold. Then I replaced the filter. Almost immediately the temp guage started going up. After about 2 minutes it was all the way over on hot. BUT NO BOIL OVER. Even the reservior was NOT boiling over. I am going to have it towed to the dealer. Don't want to take chance of overheating on way over there. ANY MORE IDEAS FELLAS/GIRLS?
