What's the right way to install a hurst 4spd shifter on a 833 and adjust the shifter rods properly? Thanks

The 1/4" rig pin only goes through the first two levers on the Mopar Hurst shifter, the Reverdse lever has no hole. The recommended tool aligns the sides of the Reverse lever. Without that tool the Reverse lever alignment has to be by eyeball.

Hello:
I use a drill rod and it is slighly longer than the shifter is wide, by holding it straight after 1st and 2 nd are aligned the reverse lever fits along side the rod with the lever to the rear, front of lever on rod.
Carefully turn rods to match holes in shifter, checking shifter gate to reverse with each turn. It is possibe to over adjust the reverse lever causing the gear to slid to far, thus locking up the tranny. Yep I did it.

when you buy the hurst installation kit it comes with instruction and that fancy plastic tool to lock the levers. just make sure the trans is in Neutral before you start hooking stuff up. you want the levers to be loose/free in the holes with little play. Youll figure it out. pretty easy once you get under there. BTW the steel bushings last way longer so if you cant grab a set of them.

Look, man, don't make this more difficult than it is. ALL you are doing is lining up the gate where neutral happens. If it catches a little going into the reverse gate, or won't shift smoothly from 2-3, "play" with the shifter a little gently and you CAN TELL BY THE FEEL of the shifter if the neutral gate is "off" and simply adjust one or t'other rods a turn or two.

Also, BE SURE that the rectangular holes in the arms are tight on the shafts. On my old '70, I bought an aftermarket comp plus, and the Da$$med arms were actually loose on the shafts. I was forever cutting little chunks 'ol feeler gauges off using them for shims.
