I was looking at my carb today and I noticed that when I manually open the throttle to wide open, it looks as if there is an extra linkage that seems to control the secondary blades.
As i have the carb wide open though, there is not enough room for the arm to open the secondaries.. . I'm not sure what needs to happen..
Should manually open or as a vac. sendary, i thought it would open, is it a combo of the two, vac controls the fuel and the linkage the blades.. thanks -

The linkage is there to close the secondaries when you get off the gas... The vacuum pod on the assenger rear area of the carb opens the secondaries...

Also, when you "fan" the throttle-blades, they aren't supposed to open (or open very much,) yet they WILL work when they are supposed to, under a load at full-throttle.

This is from the Holley.com website:

Quote:

QUESTION: I can rev the engine when it is in park and the secondaries will not open. Why is this?

ANSWER: The secondaries will not open by free revving the engine. The engine needs to be under a load before they will open. If you are still uncertain if they are opening or not you can take a normal paperclip and clip it onto the secondary diaphragm rod. You will then push it up against the bottom of the secondary diaphragm housing, now you will need to go out and drive the vehicle. When you return you will be able to look at the position of the paperclip on the rod. If it is lower on the rod then you can tell the secondaries opened and how far they opened. This is useful in determining if you need a heavier or lighter secondary spring.
