No not correct. What car is this in, IE is this stock wiring, or has it been added, or did you just hook it up? That is, DID it work sometime earlier? Here's a simplified diagram: Normally the wire which goes from ign to igniton and to one field is blue. This should have 12V from key in "run" The wire from the other field to the regulator is normally green. The regulator controls the "grounding" so to speak of that wire. It sounds like the blue is not getting 12V Have you been doing some rewiring, like, changing the igniton?

I'd clean each & every terminal/connection & do 440sixpack's voltage drop tests(esp on the bulkhead/ign sw & blue sense wire circuit) to see if there's a problem. The "blue" constant voltage reg might be a solution and with our alt's having chronic low rpm output's it may not be (totally) fixable without going to a high dollar unit.

72 Demon, original /6 car now has a 360. It has a mallory hyfire ignition system (no ballast resistor). I have done some rewiring in that area so its possible I may have hooked them back up wrong. I will do some investigating into that.
Honestly the car has sat so long I can't remember the last time it had a full tank of fresh gas lol.
I'll look into the wiring of the regulator and see whats going on with that, thanks.

The fact that the alternator is new means nothing It could be defective.
What system you running? 69/ earlier or 70/ later?
That is, one or two push-on field wire connections?
The "jump" past the regulator on a 69/earlier, disconnect the one field wire, and clip a lead to the exposed push on at the alternator, and jumper to the battery (output) stud. This should cause a LOT of output to happen at a fast idle, and the voltage should climb right up.
If you have two field wires (70/later) Pull one off and use a light or meter to determine which wire is hot with ign on. Should be blue. Leave the blue hooked up to the alternator, and ground the other alternator field terminal. It should charge as above.
If that works. check the wiring from there to the regulator. Make sure the regulator is getting ign (switched from key) and is grounded.
If that checks out, probably the regulator
