I want to do a budget 360 stroker and get around 500 hp if possible on pump gas. I know i need a 4" crank, what are decent rod's and what length? Will a 318 cam fit a 360 block and is a .528 solid a good choice? Any clearance issues with the block and a stroker assy? I also have 2.02 J-heads and adj rockers, i know they aren't the best choice but i gotta use them. I have a single plane weiand accelerator intake, 750 holley mech secondary carb, and MSD distributor from my 318, will the dist fit a 360? Sorry for all the questions, any help would be appreciated.

a day or 2 ago there were 2 good rod recommendations for reasonable money one was scat & the other was a rebuilt one w Milodon bolts iirc(cant remember who) & they'll be 6.123". The dist will fit & I haven't got that far but I believe no clearance issues.

Plan on notching the block at the bottom of each bore where the rod bolts are likely to hit. Some rods clear and some don't, but always check to be sure.

Thanks for the info Robert, i forgot you were building one. I need Piston ideas too, something in the 10-10 1/2 comp range.

Mine will be a daily driver & I'm using some badger cast flattops that I already had but if I didn't have them probably the old standby KB & their not cheap either. I would get quench so you can run a higher CR on your intended fuel

I ground on mine enough so that a toothpick could slide inbetween the rods and the block. The total amount needed to be ground away is pretty small.

Also make sure you buy radiused connecting rod and main bearings.

I went with scat rods and an Eagle crank, KB pistons and had to have the block decked to make 10.5:1. 64 cc chambers on the heads. I did not have to do any notching to clear the rod bolts. Everything off of the 318 will bolt onto the 360, except the one motor mount is different. I went with a split duration Voodoo cam.

Thanks for the info guy's, i think i read that j heads are about 72cc chambers so hopefully i can find pistons that will work without alot of work to the block.

Look into the Wiseco Pro Tru line for pistons. I'm not sure if they have the compression ratio you need, but they are a pretty good deal for the money.

It will be very difficult to reach your 500HP goal with those heads, even fully ported - and that intake manifold won't be much help getting there ether. I'd say 400 to 425 with the correct cam choice - maybe.

Yeah i know the heads aren't the best but i can't afford new ones now, aluminum heads will be a future add on. I'm open for suggestions on intake and cam ideas? Thanks.

That is real close to the cam I have and I also run the Air gap with a 4150 carb. Expect idle to smooth out around 1200+ with that cam.

I'll keep that in mind thanks for the info. I'm set up with a solid cam right now, I'd like to stay with one if anyone makes one that will work with my combo or i'll be buying lifters and rocker assy's.
