We have been running DOT5 in Dads car for years and I am running it in mine as well. We have had no problems. I like that it does not ruin your paint if it leaks or get spilled.

dot 5 is non hydroscopic, but it has a lower boiling point than dot 3, i use dot 5 in all of my cars, i have never had a problem with the dot 5.

Synthetic or silicone??

There are synthetic versions of DOT 3, 4 & 5.1.

DOT 5 is silicone.

I use MOTUL DOT 5.1 it's NOT SILICONE brake fluid like DOT 5 is, but, it IS SYNTHETIC.. Synthetic brake fluid has a higher boiling point that regular brake fluid and I am pretty sure that 5.1 is NOT compatible with other synthetic fluids... Usually sunthetic brake fluids are compatible with DOT 3 and 4,, but I remember hearing that 5.1 is NOT.. It's pretty pricey (about 8.00 a pint) but,, it works fine...

Exactly. Two different animals.

I use Valvoline's SynPower synthetic brake fluid in the Demon, and the Road Runner has Dow Corning silicone fluid in it.

I went with the Valvoline in the race car as Wilwood said not to use silicone fluid in it's brakes.

Nautilus Racing-
We use Superformance gaskets and Turbo Action converters/products.

I have Wilwoods and I have Dot5 fluid in them-as well as everything else I own. I don't like the idea of having paint stripper inside my car.

Something to be wary of - most aftermarket brake manufacturers recommend DOT 3 fluid - as DOT 5 can cause the O-Rings to swell over time.

LilDemon,

I bought Aerospace years ago for the Cuda and just started putting the front end back under it. I am glad you posted this about using Dot 3.

I put DOT 5 in the GTS, and it saved my paint! I had just bled the master cylinder and had forgot to put the top back on. Got in the car and when I pressed the pedal, it blew fluid up and all over the freshly painted firewall!

I was going to use the same stuff on in the Cuda with my aerospace brakes! You probably just saved me a lot of trouble!

Now I need to figure out what seals I need for the hubs. for some reason they did not come with seals and bearings. It has been so long, I can't find my paperwork anywhere. Parts houses here are useless. You go in with measurements and ask for seals and they look like you just spoke to them in Chinese or something hehehehe.

-Dave

PLEASE Pray for our brothers and sisters in harms way.

If you are the owner of a GTS us at the GTS Registry www.gtsregistry.com

I received an e-mail from Aerospace, they said to use either Castrol or Valvoline DOT3 or DOT4 or a non-silicone synthetic.

I thought all brake fluids were designed to swell the seals over time???

Actually I think today ALL brake fluids are synthetic, its the PR dept's that have caught on with this new buzz word. Your question therefore I think is which synthetic, as others have addressed.

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.
