I have a 1978 transmission that I am rebuilding and I cant remember if there was 1 bronze washer between them or a thinner metallic washer or both? The 727 Rebuild book says there should have been a plate and washer but what is a plate and how does it look?

A '78 should have a 3-eared babbit thrust washer which matches the three pockets in the rear clutch retainer and a thin steel washer that goes on the output shaft pilot.

The pic below shows the two in the top of the pic.
