Got the motor and trans back in,,,buttoning things up.
got the convertor in.......bolts in,,,loc tite..etc.
Dumb question................
WHERE IS A GOOD PLACE TO WEDGE SOMETHING TO KEEP THE MOTOR FROM TURNING OVER,,, so i can really tighten the convertor bolts down,,,,
didnt know if i should wedge a screwdriver or something into the ring,,convertor,,etc,,,to keep it from turning as i tighten it...dont want to mess anything up,,,etc.
WHAT DO YOU GUYS NORMALLY DO ?????
WILD Bill,,, ? lol
thanks, Doug

I have some one hold the crank W/ a socket.
It's about the only time I need another pair of hands on a trans install anymore

Craftsman makes a swivel head 3/8 drive rachet, about a foot long. I use red Locktite and snug them all up. I then rotate the bolt to the corner under the oil filter where the block meets the pan. The rachet head is small and fits easily. You will be pushing away from the pan towards the tire. This is on a smalblock.

I use an old craftsman 3/4 combo wrench that I ground back side flat for better bite. Works great on big blocks, as the box can turn crank enough that the werench wedges against bottom of block between pan lip and flexplate, that it won't jump off. Once tight, back the crank up to get wrench out, then grab the next one and spin crank around till it wedges again.

If you postion the wrench and converter at the right angle, you can get them tight without the convertor turning. Does that make sense?
It does to me, that's how we do it also, turn the engine up on compression for that vert bolt and use the wrench to put the leverage on the bolt not favoring rotating the crank

Put the Leverage on the bolt not favoring rotating the crank. Thats the best way to do it. No special tools needed. mike

I cut an opening in the bellhousing in front of the trans pan using a hole saw for the corners and then either a sawsall, air saw or whiz wheel. Then I can use a large prybar to hold the ring gear while I tighten the coverter bolts.I will try to get some pics
HEMI-ITIS has no cure. My condition is fully BLOWN!!
