i just found all my torque converter bolts loose and i just used red loctite and tightened them back up.what the time frame for 100% cure and dry time.
i want them to be completely dry so they dont come loose. i might have started the car up prematurely the 1st time.

i was wondering the same thing. 24 hours at room temp should be enough. but heat would definitely speed it up. if its tight, starting it up and getting the converter hot shouldnt hurt it.

If the bolts are nice and snug ... I would not have a prob with firing-it right up.

I have done it before.

The friction & heat from torquing the bolt usually cures Red loctite almost immediately.

i put 1 bolt in hand tight
with the loctite just to see after 2 hours if if would come out, yes it came right out and loctite was still wet and sticky. these are new bolts.

If they are brand-new bolts .. there could have been a film of oil on them. It is BEST to clean-em with brake-clean before using.

"hand tight" You must TQ it to stretch the bolt & produce the friction between the threads that the loctite uses to cure.....Yes it will not cure without the heat from friction.

Does it not also rely on the abscense of air as a catalyst to cure?

technically, it has nothing to do with the heat and friction of tightening the bolt. Loctite is an anaerobic sealer. much like plain old superglue. you must remove any air for it to harden. a loose bolt doesen't do that. a tight bolt does. heat will soften the loctite after it's cured. how much heat depends on the grade of loctite used.

It ready to be used as soon as you torque the fastner. It doesn't have to dry.

What about wet torque vs dry, oil and loc tite? , do ya clean your bolts and loc tite them or oil them and wet torque them, any body using loc tite on rod bolts? Let the games begin

Well that was clear cut Nobody has ever wet torqued a rod bolt , cleaned the last thread and put a drop of loc tite on for the hell of it

I use assembly lube and a stretch gauge

It's the only accurate way to tell for sure how much tension is actually in the bolt shank. Otherwise your torque reading could be overcoming friction in the threads and face of the nut and not clamping the cap!

ps no Loctite either
