I decided to check the oil level in my Charleis oil pan, which I bought off of a member on here and I didn't have a part number to work with to ask Charlie on how much it should hold. He did say that most of his oil pans like this one, aluminmum SS style with a kick out and a tube for the steering cross bar, usually held 8 to 10 quarts depanding on the car and depth of the sump. I will post the first picture on here, the amount of oil is written on the rear of the pan above the rear oil pan slosh baffle on the end of the oil pan 8 quarts if I remember correctly

This one si with 10 quarts, which puts the oil level even with the front and rear slosh baffles BTW 4 quarts barely covers the Milidon swinging pick up which would be a quick way to burn up some bearings under acceleration or deacceleration if you ran it that way

So you didn't think that 8 qt. might have been a clue?

Last one at 12 quarts, a good way to flood the rear main seal under acceleration. the oil level is above both oil slosh baffles, front and rear I will probally run 9 quarts in this pan the first time I run it at the track, I did run it with 12 quarts on the engine dyno because I was afraid of running it out of oil due to the Indy head oiling issue we had with another motor I help on before running this one. The other motor does not have a crankshaft scraper or windage tray , my motor has both. I have since restricted the oil to the rocker arms on this motor and the other one

I always use the cubic inches to figure the volume
when I make pans(231 cu in per gal) then when completed
fill them to check

Cab, now I se what you were doing, I first thought that you didn't know how much to put it the pan when the 8 qts. was written on the back. I've did the same filling thing to see were the added qts. came up to.

Last one at 12 quarts, a good way to flood the rear main seal under acceleration.

Time to start measuring in gallons...
I think that thing could use a slosh shield between the CL tube and rear of the pan, then you could run more oil.

It has one, all 3 of the Charlie oil pans I own have them. I don't really want to run any more oil, just enough to serve the motors needs

I was going to post this up last night at work, but realized I didn't have any pics of my pan on the shop computer.

I put lexan (a little better heat resistance than acrylic) windows in the front and side at the RF corner of the pan, sealed w/ grey silicone and secured with 1/4-20 bolts (double-nutted).

I'd thought that I couldn't use a disptick, because there's no 'bump' to clear it in the side of the pan. But, it sneaks down past it anyway...

FWIW, this is a Charlie's dragster pan w/ a trap door halfway back, baffles front % rear, and a swinging pickup. I'm also running a Milodon swinging pickup.
