Just out of curiousity, been coming here for years. I just never seem to catch many posts about someone bracket racing a hemi.

Looks like I may be getting my brothers 65 coronet to race for a few years (rolling chassis) really kind of kicking around the idea of building a mild bracket hemi for it. Just for the fact of the cool factor in a 65.......

thoughts?

Will see what the weekend brings for responses. I really thought there would be more than one.

Since we have pretty much chewed up and spit out everything we had left of 440 stuff that was factory, Im going to be in the market for new block and heads anyways. Thought would kick the idea of a hemi around. Nothing crazy 650-700 hp. Put flat hood back on it run alky injection and see if I can retain some old school long type injectors for the looks, but with the newer school injection components.

will cost you a heap more money to be cool unless you have a hemi just setting around. I think it would be cool though. go for it

Yeah I know thats one of the issues.

Figured 3k for block another 3k for alum heads. But some of the add on parts will really add up. Just some rockers for the thing is ridiculous.

Just off the top of my head I figure for the same money will make about 25% less HP just because of the additional cost.

At least you would get the complete package with one of these
I have no idea if they are a good deal over all the individual componets, just a thought. You sure pay a premium for the image, 15K makes way more grunt with a lowly wedge, both big and small versions.

thats one of the things that scares the hell outta me. 15k for that type of power really makes me wonder if piecing it together will be similar, or more expensive.

I gotta think if I take my time and get a hold of the right people piecing it together has to be considerably cheaper.

I did for a couple of years in the Barracuda. The car was very consistent and reliable for me, well until it came apart in the lites. But it did do that in the Semi's of a bracket race. Car ran consistent 8.80's in the summer. They are not cheap or for the faint of heart IMO. It is more of a WOW factor to me. The response we got with a Hemi Cuda was much different than what we get now with the B1, even though it is eight tenths faster now

well i can think of 2 people that bracket race there HEMI's.
1. Bucky Hess in his King Kuda.
2. Lil Joe Teuton in 2 of his SS/AH cars.

These guys are both very successful at bracket racing HEMI's.

Infact when i was at Lil Joe's shop, he had a HEMI for sale.
Let me know if you are interested in it, i will pass along the info.

im building a bracket Hemi now. Its pretty mild by todays standards. Forget about the MP Crate engines.
Might as well go big. 572 cost you no more than a 426. Original blocks approach $5K. A new 4.5" bore World goes for around $2500. The New MP head cast by Edelbrock are very nice. I had my heads CNC by MCH and they have very nice numbers. 460CFM at .800 lift. Combine this with 13:1 compression, and even with a aggressive solid flat cam like in my case. 800 hp shouldn't be a stretch. And shift it at a low rpm for it to live also.
I have all kinds of info if your interested, flow sheets etc. I have about $12K in the engine, and like very little to complete it.
