Hi Guys,

I'm going to be pulling the engine and trans from my 71 Challenger for the new 5 speed and refresh the engine and I saw that Dutch Brothers has what they call a Crazy Eight Lift And K Member Remover. It looks like an easy way to do the job from the bottom. However I can't justify spending the $350.00 for using it once or twice.

I was just wondering if anyone had one out there that I could borrow for a while? Obvously I would pay for the freight to and from I just can't justify spending that money for a one time use. Thanks

Take their pictures and build your own. It looks pretty simple.

I might rent you mine.
It is a lot of money to shell out, but why would I shell it out for you to use for free?

I have one that's available. However, it may be somewhat pricey to ship it from AZ. Not sure if you are aware that there are two assemblies. 1) The K-member and engine dolly portion which allows you to place the K-member, engine and tranny on. 2)The caster/wheels which bolt on to the frame rails which the lift bar connects to. I believe the total cost of the two is $500. Also, if you need the small block attachment, that's another $40 or so.

I'm in the same boat as you, I pulling the motor and trans out of my 67 coronet and also have trouble spending that kind of money for a one time shot

I did too, but decided to err on the side of caution. I was going to try to fabricate something, but decided to play it safe. I've used it 2 times in and out. I'm hoping I can use it n some more projects down the road.

You can rent a cherry picker for $50 or less.

I made my own K frame "cart" out of 2x4's doubled up and 4 good casters.(use solid not pneumatic).

Had my engine and trans out several times and have used the same setup on 3 friends cars.

I bought a lift since BUT I still use the cart!

Is it really easier to drop the engine out the bottom than to pull from the top? I've only gone from the top so this really sounds foreign to me. They obviously have the suspension removed in the photo to show what it looks like, but doesn't the suspension get in the way dropping out the bottom?

the suspension comes out with the engine.
disconnect the upper control arms from the inner fenders and with everything disconnected take the engine out while its sitting on the k-frame.trans should come out too while youre at it.

Butch, generally speaking this is the method to use for a restoration or a front end rebuild while redoing the drivetrain. When you've got fresh pain in the engine compartment this is the best way to go.

I still don't understand this reluctance to build your own. This isn't rocket science. Look at the pictures and buy some angle iron and casters.

My , When dropping out the bottom, the front-end would need re-alignment + bleeding brakes. Torsion bars need removal. 40 years old K - frame bolts "?" Guess I'm "Old school" My biggest hassle is getting hood back on correctly (even though I've previously marked!) Great idea IF you are installing new suspension parts I saw the Dutch Bros. demo @ Van Nuys , California "Spring Fling" and was tempted to buy their very nice set-up , yet same predicament you state Re: ONE(1) time use just does not justify. Then ALL my "Mopar "Buddies" want to borrow ...............
