I have a 70 Challenger that I am replacing the dash pad with an Ultimate Rides pad. Along with the trimming I had to do for a/c vents etc. I now have another problem. The replacement pad has some padding where the vin plate attaches. I tried to rivet the plate on but the rivets are not long enough to grab the metal frame without pushing downon the plate and bending it. I don't want to take a chance of damaging the plate. Seems I have seen someone advertise a longer vin rivet that may solve the problem. Any thoughts?

What ever way you go with the rivits, if you try to attach the tag with all that foam under it you'll bend the snot out of it when you pull the rivit tight enough to break the nail. I've lived that dream, after straightening out the tag I ended up using emblem adhesive to hold the tag and original rivit heads to the pad.

Does anyone have contact info for ecs auto? I thought I would not be the only one who has had this issue. Thanks for the input.

Can you slit the vinyl under where the plate goes and get some of that foam out of there?

I have done this in the past with success.

Funny you mentioned that as I had the same thought this morning. If I can evenly remove some of the foam it may work.

Mine was not that bad but my Vin is dented down where the rivits go on my just dashes pad.
