I just purchased a bunch of these and what is the best way to preserve them while in storage from rusting? They have already been cleaned and magged!

SPRAY 'em with fogging-oil and then bag 'em.

Store them in a dry place with a coat of wheel bearing grease on the machined surfaces.

i have actually had parts still rust using wheel bearing grease and if they didn't rust the grease left some weird looking stains behind when it was wiped off.

lately i have been using plain old WD-40 on parts that i plan on using in the next year or so that seems to work.

another thing i did one time and was told this by a machine shop was to paint the crank journals. the crank had a fresh turn on it and i didn't know when i was going to get around to using it so i painted them and 3 years later i just used some thinner and wiped it off and used the crank.

I have heard of the paint trick, but haven't tried it myself yet.

I didn't think moisture or humidity could penetrate through wheel bearing grease.

from what i understand it usally has to do with the humidity in the air when the grease is applied. once the grease goes on it traps moisture and if there is any thin spots where air can get through it will start to rust.

the paint trick works really well but can be somewhat of a pain to keep the paint off the areas you don't want it on.

that crank i did stood up in a homemade wooden box near my garage door that had all kinds of moisture around it for 3 years and when i wiped it down it looked like it came right from the machine shop.

billy mays space bags. add your parts and some dessicant to absorb any left over moisture & draw the air out with your vacuum cleaner suction side. No air no rust
