make sure everything is clean. Blow out all the door jambs, hood jambs...ect. Blow the engine compartment out thoroughly. You want as little dust as possible to wind up in the new paint. Take your time and dont rush things. the extra time spent will be well worth it.

And make sure the area you're painting in is clean and dust free with no misquitos.

go to lowes or home depot. and get some naptha or mek, and use it to wipr down the aera your painting. also if you are useing the paint from autozone, advance auto or pep-boys,be carefull not to run it, had a bad experince with it. i would use a real paint from napa car quest or any bodo supply store. what kind of gun are you useing?

Duplicolor? Spray cans?
The best advise I can give you is to work as clean as possible, as others have mentioned.
Also, do a test panel. It may seem like a pain to get an old fender and do it first, but you will probably learn something just doing that old fender that will make the final paint job better.

Be very carefull, follow the instructions. Lots of paints and chemicals these days can mess you up permanently.

Duplicolor makes a premixed laquer primer/paint/clear system they sell off the shelf at places like autozone. I researched up on this stuff a bit and the concensus is it's not a good paint, some guys who used it said even a gas spill would take it off! No hardener/activator/catalyst to mix in with the paint so I could see why. I would honestly return that stuff if this is what you bought and go to your local auto body supply and buy the real stuff.

dont waste all that time prepping and then spray junk on, waste of time and money, better off keeping your truck white until you got more money
