If it's restored, it's just another 57 Plymouth, not that there is anything wrong with a beautifully restored 57. It's just that it will lose the time capsule uniqueness.

The Bonnie & Clyde car won't deteriorate in air because of bullet holes- my worry is that this thing will completely disintegrate now if nothing is done.

This was exactly my thought. For 50 years people have waited to see how she faired, well, now we know. I think to restore it, as someone else said, would take away the uniqueness of it. Just as artifacts from shipwrecks, or ancient tombs are preserved in the "as found" state, I think the 57 should be also. People in the future would get more from the story of the car and the time if its left as is in a climate contrlled glass enclosure with a perfect copy right next to it, for all to see what it looked like when it went in the vault. But, thats just my .

Let's not rebuild New Orleans... because the parts are worth more than the city as a whole. Sentimental value is worth something... mystique... something. There's just something about it. There's something about New ORleans too... and I hope New Orleans comes back to the way it was before. I guess I see the car as more than just metal parts that somebody else can use.

I think they should restore it the same way that people restore other valuable cars that are total basket cases. That means thousands of man hours, body swap, whatever it takes. I don't see this car as any less important than cars that are supposedly worth millions of dollars.

And after it is meticulously restored, it should be buried again (with a new time capsule), except this time it should be done right. Then it can be unearthed for the 150th anniversary to start the process all over again. That way, each generation can contribute to the history of the car, and there will always be people alive with a personal stake in the car. Otherwise, everyone who had anything to do with it will eventually die and it will become just another museum piece. If you did this every 50 years, people old enough will remember the last time it was unearthed, and some of the people who helped will still be around no matter how old the car becomes.
