My hope, personally, is that the WPC museum manages to buy it, because they'd at least restore it properly (I'd imagine) and put it on display, maybe even lend it back out to Tulsa for display.

best idea I've heard yet, if they want it

Honestly, I wouldn't restore it either. Clean some of the mud off, maybe get the rear back to normal ride height, and display it more or less as-is.

It's a really awesome piece of history in it's current condition. However, my vote would be to do the bare minimum to get it running mechanically, and then do one monster of a burnout.

I'd totally wash the car, completely dry it out and leave it as is. In a climate controlled museum it will remain intact forever.

I think its cool to see what it looks like. It would be a lot better if it was in good condition when they took it out but its just neat to see a car that was buried for 50 years like that! They should just clean it off and leave it alone where you can see it. Restoring it would be stupid. Theres tons of nice looking ones around but you never see one that was buried for 50 years. Id rather see it all rusty and dirty then if they fixed it up with all sorts of parts that dont belong to it. If I won it Id try to trade it to someplace like a museum for another one in good condition. Then you could see the car you won any time you wanted and have one that you can drive and do stuff with at the same time.

I don't see the point of restoring the car. It's been submerged, so unless it cleans up real perty like there is going to be ALOT of funk in hard to get to places.

I would hope it just gets as clean as it can be and then put on display as is.

I agree only way would be tp strip car to nothing then redistrip it and E coat it. would not even be the same car again. Be just the base shell with all new parts added to it

I personally think this car should be treated no different from a '57 that was left sitting in a field. Restore it to it's showroom condition. If not, it's just another rusty old car.

Here's partially why i think that: In 1957, the winner expected they would get pristine 57 Plymouth 50 years later. In reality they won an orange-ish turd that *might* be worth something to a car guy, but not the average Tulsa resident. I think the city should fork up some $$$$ for a full restoration. Take lots of pictures, but make it new again.

Discussing what should or should not be done with the car is a mute point.

The car will be going to the winner (or nearest living realitive) for them to do with it what they will

From personal experience, it can be really tough to be the person(s) that restore a trashed high profile car. You never feel like you win. You have the people that are happy to see the car looking great and roadworthy, then you have the people that believe the restoration process killed any coolness the car had left. It is alot different than restoring an unknown barn find.

Is there something I don't know about flag etiquette? Why is this flag resting on the ground?

I read that chrysler wants the car.

I read somewhere that whom ever wins the car can trade it for any new chrysler of their choosing.

no boot straight up even.

I will trade you this 57 plymouth for the 07 viper thank you

to be 100% truthful here i would strip it for all the stainless trim clean ect and clean that stuff up and ebay it for cash and to see it go to a good home and crush the rest that is worthless....
Only other option {for me}would be to just mash it all or sell it all as is.Not everyone has the cash or know how to restore a car that far gone

Well, all kidding aside, I am astounded.
We live in COMPLETELY different worlds. I wouldn't think about crushing that car, even as a joke.

my 2cents:
Save this 57 as it came from the tomb, clone the original and store them side by side for the world to see.

Just got home from the car show and the '57 looks rough, they have it roped off so you could only get about 10' from it.I don't know if it could be restored or not but I wouldn't crush it.
One police officer guarding the car said it might be July before they find out who won it but he has heard three museums are already wanting the car.
I did see alot of nice cars at the show including several 57's.
