I was wondering of anyone using the Moroso external electric water pump drives has any problems with overheating down-track or even in the staging lanes when it's stop and go. I was thinking of using the 28% overdrive pulley on the motor, but still water flow only comes to 11.2 gpm., that isn't very much.

Yeah, it's got a smallblock.

We used one for years... worked okay but the car did get a little warm on the way back from the run. We went with the csr and love it now the car get drove more on the street than the track and still stays cool.

Did you use the standard 11 cog pulley on the electric motor?

Yeah, it's got a smallblock.

NEVER tried one myself .. but I have heard lots of reports on them.

Decent pieces for pure race cars ... work OK for cooling-it-down in the staging lanes but to use on the street?

Nope.

This is for strip only. It would work fine in staging lanes when there are even slight delays, but sometimes it's stop and go.

Yeah, it's got a smallblock.

Stop and go could be a prob. How about a 2 speed motor .. OR get a higher rpm motor?

To be honest I'd have to look.. All I know is that late in the race when it was round robin it got HOT. With all thats on the market know I wouldnt go that route unless you have one laying around My car is really a track only but after getting laid off, I try to give my brothers in blue something to do now and again...

That's my situation. I get laid off every 4th or 5th week and looking to save a buck, but not at the expense of a set of rings. What engine do you run, that could make a difference. Mine is a smallblock.

Its a 70 Duster with a 400rb in it. Indy heads 13.1 com with indy intake and dom. its run a best of 9.8 in street trim at 3380lbs. My dad runs a small block in his Barracuda and ran in to the small problems I did, and he went with csr also.. and loves it.

Thanks for the info. Mine is 11.90's car and probably about 1/2 your HP. Still undecided, but I know the self-contained unit would be the safe way.

Yeah, it's got a smallblock.

no problem. dad cuda runs 12.00s so you guys are pretty close. I'd still say run the csr or something like it. you'll be glad you did.. thats one thing I can't stand is to have the car HOT.. good luck..

I run the Moroso drive on my 360 drag car, and it works great. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have the CSR (on my wishlist). I do run a restrictor in the thermostat housing, and a 3-row Griffin aluminum radiator. Also, no fenderwells. Car never gets over 180, and cools to 150 between rounds easily. I even quit pulling the hood off between passes in order to retain some heat. My guess is thanks to the rad.

Word of caution. Run the belt loose or you will burn out the motor bushings. Actually doesn't need any tension on it. Don't run a very heavy fan.

I use one in my (11.1 sec) 440 bracket 70 Duster. I run a viscous fan, stock WP, OEM type replacement radiator (2 row? for a non/ac small block), and a 160 deg thermosat. In the heat of the Summer down here, I stage about 180deg, and drive back to the pits at about 225. I'll run the fan/WP while waiting in the staging lanes, starting it to move forward. Back in the pits, I run it for about 10 minutes to get it back to 160 degrees. I run a single battery with an alternator, plus I charge it between runs.
