nah that's always been bad

it seems to be coming from under the hood, like it's coming in thru the fresh air vents. i'll try to check for leaks. could something inside the carb make it just dump more fuel when the 2ndaries open?? more reason to get an a/f meter already.

Could be one of two things, or combo. The fuel pump could be over powering the floats. Set the floats 1/16 inch higher than spec. Or, the secondaries are too rich. jet down on the dump tubes.

After you get into the secondaries(& smell gas) pull over & see if you see any gas leakage on the outside of the carb

Even if you're jet real rich you shouldn't smell it through the vents at speed. I can see smelling it through the exhaust but you must have a leak if you're smelling it thru the vents. I'd check the carb as well as the fuel lines/connections after you nail it and get the smell.
