Hans I jointed the crowd and walked in the front part way on left side and then crossed to the right side and was in the front. I am from Tulsa. Did you see our local silly bicycle Santa Claus? I am leaving work and headed back to the show. I hope to meet you! I have a white t-shirt with In-N-Out Burgers on the front and a hemi orange '69 GTX on the back.

That's cool, I'll be I've got one of those shirts myself so I know what to look for! Let's hope for the best, only a couple of hours left!

LOL, Saw the Santa and hide my $, didn't want to see him sing naked

Can't help but look at this as much more than just a dirty old rusty car... I mean, when this was put in the ground:

- Chrysler had just started using torsion bars
- They hadn't built a unibody car yet (the Airflows don't count)
- The slant six was still 3 years away
- Push button automatics were futuristic and trendy
- Seat belts were not yet standard equipment... airbags? whassat??
- Richard Petty was just starting his racing career
- Superbird? Daytona? Huh?
- The early Hemi was still offered in new cars
- Fins were in!

What has happened since the last time this car saw the light of day?

- Viet Nam
- The Lunar landing
- The musclecar era came, went, came back again
- The internet
- Funnycars
- The second gen Hemi came and went
- My best buddy lived and died
- NASCAR changed from basically showroom-stock vehicles to something that isn't even remotely related to a showroom-stock vehicle
- Chrysler almost went bankrupt twice, invented the minivan, was bought, sucked dry and sold by a German company....

I could go on and on... just overwhelmed by all the history that has happened while that ol' thing was buried underground.

I predict a power washer would ENLARGE the holes already in the body.

I can't believe how many thought this car had a chance. In a subsurface environment, water is the ultimate infiltrator. That poor car has been swimming off and on for decades.

I still don't think Boyd and his goons will have it running, but I'm holding out hope that the car is pretty solid.

Them jabronis can't even get the stuff they build to run.

I swore that Herb McCandless announced at MATS that he was going to get the car running. Did he get outbid?

I had lunch with Herb this past Wednesday, and he has bowed outta this fiasco. Some woman in charge of this episode came into the game and got this Boyd character to oversee the car running venture, so Herb told them Bye! Now some other dude is begging Herb to show up and is trying to get him to fly in and help out. I don't think that he will oblige any of their efforts to get involved in this mistake in progress of the unveiling.

What a joke to get Coddington to have ANYthing to do with this car. He's fine in his own arena, but not at all suitable for working with this piece of nostalgia. They blew it when they snubbed Herb McCandless. Shame.

Just proves Herb is as smart as I thought he was.

Too bad they didn't except that it would fill up with water...
Then put the seats in air tight bags and then just fill the vault to top with peanut oil or baby oil(popular at the time) right off the bat. Not real environment frendly... but who are we kidding it was the 50s... a time when folks still changed there oil and then dumped it in the back yard.

Car would be in much better shape... well maybe not after the 2007 Hazmat crew got done with it.
But it would be worth it...
just to watch tree huggers faint when they pulled it out with oil dripping everywhere

Hind site certainly is 20/20 and clearly there were better ways. However, who's to say if it was in a crypt above ground a semi wouldn't run off the road and crush it, or a tornado hit it? Or, if it were in a warehouse, the warehouse may have burned, etc. In a way, it's almost more exciting that it's been in the water...if it were perfectly dry, we'd be expecting a new but perhaps dusty 57 Plymouth. Now, we don't know what to expect. People store their cars under trees, in garages, in driveways, and in the woods...but NO ONE stores their car in a concrete pit underground with rising and falling water! Who knows what it will look like.

I am very curious as to how the rust/mud got on TOP of the car. The water in there must have been turbulent to lift the rust from below to above so it could settle on the car. If it was calm/motionless water, you would think the sediment and rust would all be at the bottom of the vault. If water was rushing in from above, that could explain how mud settled on top I guess.

Any theories?

The wraps must be off it by now? I figure an hour and we'll have dozens of photos and videos.
