Some friends of mine bought a 1971 Newport as a parts car, I want to buy the engine.

They bought it from a salvage yard that did not receive the keys with it(yes, they got the title with it and no it's not hot).

I know that if you've got a car with a bad ignition switch, you can use the key, put it into the run position, and then start the car by jumping it off on the starter relay.

I don't have a way to put the car into the run position, so if I just arc the car off on the relay, it's going to die.

One thing would be to remove a door cylinder and bring it to a reputable locksmith and have a new key cut, providing that it was never changed to mismatch the ignition, or pop the ignition and cut a key from that.

If it has points still run a wire from the battery to the + side of the coil and jump the relay, if it has electronic run a wire from the battery to the ballast and jump the ignition.

If you want to drive it give the wheel a tug and it will pop the wheel lock, for the shifter ground the NSS terminal on the starter relay, disconnect the shift linkage and put it in drive, it will start in gear that way.

I pretty much just told you how to rip off a car but it's the same method you use for getting a parts car out of the woods.
