I am having a cam change done on my 440. I have a standard distributor and want to have it curved to match the cam. Does anyone know of a good place to send it to?

Thanks.

There are two things that get changed when you "recurve the distributor" one is to limit the mechanical advance and the second is to speed up the rate the mechanical advance kicks in. All of the stock OEM Mopar distributor I have seen have the amount of mechanical advance stamped into the bottom of advance plate(the part the distributor rotor attaches to that goes down into the mechanical advance plate. You can buy (Mr gasket, Moroso and others)the springs needed to speed the advance up and you can have the advance slots welded up to limit the mechanical advance, if the plate is stamped 13(which is 26 crankshaft degreees advance) then you need to measure the length of the slot and have it welded up 1/4 of its length which will give you around 8 to 10 degrees total(depending on how accurate the welder is) mechanical advance(16 to 20 crankshaft degrees) which will allow you to set the initial at or around 16 degrees before top dead center and end up with 34 to 36 degrees total timing at the higher RPMs

Mr Gasket part # 925B for Mopar distributors.

I use them a clean up the weights/mechanism thoroughly and apply a little white lithium grease. Pretty easy to do!

That's why I saved it.. I don't recall who first posted it, I wasn't even sure if it was accurate but so far I've done three Mopar distributors & it's been right...

Don at FBO also offers a new recurve kit that includes a limiter plate that allows you to set the total mechanical advance to a number of different settings, along w/ springs and info on what different springs will do for the rate of advance vs. rpm. I'd recommend it to anyone looking to "tune" an OEM Mopar distributor.
