I have removed the front and rear glass from my Dart project. What works to remove that gooey balck crap that is used to seal the glass gasket to the pinch weld? I have removed the part that I could scrape off, but need to get it squeaky clean for paint. Thanks.

I've used lacquer thinner with good results. I've heard acetone works too, and in a pinch, wax and grease remover with a little elbow grease. Just gotta rub a little harder. However, lacquer thinner and acetone will remove paint, but since your having it painted I don't think it will matter. If you get any on your new paint when you install the glass, I'd stick with wax and grease remover.

What worked for me was a combination of a few things. I started with a metal scraper or narrow metal chisel and a propane torch to heat the old gasket to soften it enough to scrap the bulk of it off. You just want to be carefull not to put to much heat on the metal itself. Then like stated before after that using some kind of paint thinner or parts cleaner scrub off the rest with a wirebrush, scouring pad and then a rag to finish it off. At one point I tried using a wire wheel on a drill but that just smeared around the messy sealer. No matter what works for you it is still a big job. Good luck, Onebad

if you are going to repaint anyway just use a gasket remover disc that goes in a angle die grinder, aka Cookie. or one of those black 3M things that body guys use, aka hamburger.
work smarter not harder.
