Charger weighs around 4200lb without driver , used mickey thompson , good year & hoosiers slicks , seems the car feels like it's on ice mid track (28x10.5x15"), only time the car will handle is if i inflate the tyres to 15/16psi , which just spins it off the line , is there a tyre for heavier cars like the stiff sidewall? & will it help? , runs 10.6 @ 130mph , having to lift off the throttle mid track with tyre pressures below 14psi.

Caltracs with monos & ranchero shocks , front shocks are standard.

Thanks,

Front end matters
Stock suspension? Do you know how much positive castor you have? do you know how much it toes OUT ? PM me and I can help--I live near Herb McCandless and he has schooled me on front suspension stuff on all the drag cars I have had --I MIGHT be able to help DK

Does the front dart around or does it feel like the
rear is moving around. Have you done a toe curve checking
to see if it goes toe out(not good, this causes the car
to dart back and forth). What year charger, is it a
fast back. They do make still side wall slicks

I use the M/T ET streets (11.50/28/15- same as the (9 x 28 ET Drag slick ) at 18 lbs. Car weighs 3750 with me in it. I have Caltrac bars and QA-1adjustable shocks. Has run a best of 10.43@ 130.56 with no downtrack spin issues.

how old are the tires? sidewalls could be gettin weak and thus allowing the car to wonder around.

Can you fit a bigger rear tire on it?

68 charger

Toe in is 5mm , camber is zero & castor is maxed out , although i had to bring the UCA forward around 1/2" in order to get zero camber , but still got positive castor.

Tried a few tyres so thinking it's not down to sidewall wear , maybe 90/10 shocks would help out?

What application would the stiff sidewall tyres be used on? , is this for heavy cars?

too much pre load on the cal tracs will cause that start backing them off 1/2 turn at a time!
Made a huge difference in mine when I had a 542 (RIP) added some extra pre load last time out with my 452 and it was way less stable top end.
Just something to try

My truck does the same thing. The rear starts to feel like it's wandering around enough to get the whole body rocking side to side at speed. I really start to notice it around 110 and above. Dave

Only got 1/2 turn preload on the bars , would this make a difference? , thinking too much preload would be similar as having to hard a shock absorber? , never driven it without preload so will be interesting to see what happens , fitted them & set them up as per caltracs instruction.

When I went to the 542 (RIP) from the 452 I had to go to 1 to 1 1/2 turns of negative from 1 turn pre load with my 452. now I'm back to 1 turn pre load with a 452 tried 2 turns of pre load last time out and it felt unstable top end and moved around a bit!!
Then an oil leak ended my week end!
Calvert told me if it feels unstable and moves around to loosen bars as too tight does not let the suspenion work I assume you have a big incher that makes it act too tight. on mine it did anyways.

Running a 605" , complete waste of time on the bottle , runs faster on motor @ the moment.

Interesting regarding the preload on different motors , seems it goes from one extreme to the other.

Yea I tried to leave it where it was good for the 452 and eventually started taking load out and it got better and better. launch and down trac. after blowing up the 542 another 452 and it likes pre load??? all you can do is try things.
The TT night with the 542 when I went back first 1 turn then 2 the 1/2 a guy from Detroit stopped by and help watched saying they went through the same thing with a big inch and monos and cal tracs??
Just what happened to me!!

I had made up my mind the pre load was too much for all that torque (and cal had said I might have to start going back and see if it liked it)
I made a TT then took 1 turn smoother launch and easier drive. then took another the 1/2. dam then it left smooth pulling the wheels 4 to 6 inches and carrying them 20 to 30 feet then straight down broadway!! I never ran any faster 60 foot or 1/4 but it was way smoother all round.
But if your driving all over that can't be good!!!!
