it looks like the car is sitting on the bag and they just unfolded the bag up around the car and sealed it, if so i believe the car is alright as long as there were no holes punched in the bag. kinda like a ziploc bag, i hope.

I wonder if the fluids were drained prior to storing it. If the engine had oil and the tranny had fluid and the axle had gear oil and water did indeeed flood the car it would have been floating on top.

EPA wouldn't have given the go ahead.

I imagine they left the fluids in.

EPA does not have a presence in Oklahoma. The enviromental regulatory presence in OK is the DEQ.

Secondly, if you notice in one of the pics with water in it, you can see a sheen on the water.

Unless OK seceded from the union, EPA rules (whatever they may be) would apply.

Yesterday my spirits were dampened (HA, HA) and I was upset that "they" cut and removed the lid without the major media being present. I even posted that I might skip the taking the car out of the vault event (the unveiling is later in the evening on Friday). After going to the site this afternoon and meeting people from New Zealand, CA, AZ, etc. I decided I am going to attend as much of this event as possible.

I think this is going to be one heck of a car show. This afternoon I meet a guy named Richard Cook. Anybody heard of him? Can anybody guess his nick name in the old hot rodder type magazines??? By the magazines he showed me he has made several cool custom projects over his life. At this show he has a custom '41 car hauler truck hauling an 8 wheel drive and steer Willy's jeep he made. I met this group of people from New Zealand (one had a mopar t-shirt so I asked if they were members of Moparts) and had a very interesting conversation. Thankfully I had seen the movie "The World's Fastest Indian" so besides cars we talked about Bert Munro.

Realizing I would only be cutting off my nose in spite if I did not go due to how the early phases of the event have been handled I decided to ignore what happened yesterday. My recommendation is if you considered coming before what happened yesterday you should still come to the event!

I keep going back to the picture clearly showing the shape of the front fenders under the plastic cover.
They look like the right shape, contours and all.
Isn't that front corner the weakest part, rust-wise, on this era Chrysler product?
Yes, I'm an unrealistic optimist.
Still...

Could that be from the equipment they where using to open the tomb?

Until we know for sure I'm still remaining optomistic.

Looks like there was a tank of gas that was left outside the bag. Could be what's floating around in the water and not the fluids from the car.

Yeah, it's true that this era Mope when left exposed to the elements tends to rust badly around the headlight area. But obviously the way this car may or may not be "aged" is totally unique.

Since the car was new when they did this, and some of the parts off the car are still good, can those parts be sold on ebay as NOS?

I can't wait for te bag to be cut!

The car was buried with a can of gas and some oil in case they were not availible here in the future . If those were outside the car and its cover, they could easily be the source of the slick on the water.

Something that has not been addressed is the mud in the vault. Assuming the cover did in fact leak, if some of that clay mud seeped in and coated the car, I would think it would actually help protect it.

Remember when they raised the U.s.s. Cairo in the 60's? It was encased in mud and was well preserved... until they tried to raise it.

I dunno, just I thought, keeping my fingers crossed...

One thing I'm unclear about it....

Is it really a bag the car is in? or is it more like a drop cloth just covering it?

it would be foolish to say the least to alter this car in anyway i.e. restore it, part it etc., it should be displayed in the condition it is in no matter how bad it may or may not be.

Just like Lee #01?
