I'm thinking the only things that are going to survive are the glass and maybe the tires.
With as much rain as has fallen on Tulsa in the past 50 years, I can't imagine anything being able to hold back that much water.

I can't imagine it being able to hold back the rain from this year, let alone the last fifty. I got three inches at my house yesterday.

I'll be around there Friday. Actually had coneys downtown today and cruised by the site.

Probably water from that water pipe by the tomb. In retorspect, has anyone noticed from the one section of top how poorly it was sealed, if at all? Note the water trial from the top down. All that work and basically looks like they just laid a lid on it.

Is it being aired online or tv?

Yes.

Locally or nation wide? What station...time?

I think I read only the Tulsa TV stations are broadcasting it live. The rest of us will be able to watch it on www.kotv.com

google it and you will get the TV stations covering it. You can watch it live if you have the bandwith. I think it's tomorrow.

Why didn't they ponder the thought of putting it into a steel container and weld all the seams and doors shut....

Why'd they use concrete? You could use galvanized metal and then maybe put it inside the tomb.

You think chrysler is still offering that trade for a production vehicle for this cancer eaten body?

They had the bright idea to take everyone's name and population guess and put it into a metal container and weld the container shut....I bet you that container is the only thing that will survive this situation

Well, as already mentioned, they really shouldn't have buried it. Instead, seal it up above ground.

After all, time capsules are often stored in the cornerstone of a building. This would just be a REALLY big cornerstone.

That figures! The ONLY way to have a car survive in WI is to drop it to the bottom of the lake.

That car stayed underwater, so there wasn't much oxygen.

The 57 Plymouth's tomb looks like the water level changed and part of the car was exposed.

A car that's been totally underwater like that old Ford has had no oxygen to rust it

The vault car has had air in the vault - water in pushes air out, water out is replaced with air

That's true. All those wet/dry cycles will aid in the corrosion process, unfortunately.

Plus, the real damage will occur inside the panels (at hemmings, spot weld areas, etc), where there is little or no paint film build combined with crevices which facilitate oxygen concentration cells. The stuff they sprayed on the outside of the car will have done little to protect the critical areas.

Not to mention all the damage that water and dirt/grunge will have done to the engine/transmission, interior upholstery, electrical system, etc etc.

I would like to believe otherwise, but it doesn't look like it will be pretty. It will be interesting either way, though. Rather than restore it (if it's even possible), it would be cool if they could put it in a museum as is... I'm sure it's the only one like it in the world.

Reguardless of it's condition I wonder if this will make the '57s as valuable as the '58s?

Yep, the only way theres any chance at all is if the 3 layer sealed "plastic bag" somehow stayed sealed, but we ARE talking about 1957 technology. Yep, its a big pile of rotted, filthy, stinking junk.
