awww man, I was hoping for the best, but.... I think that no matter how bad off it is, it will be restored. Lets say the car was even partially submerged the majority of the time-there probably wasnt enough air to complete the oxidation, and there certainly isnt any salt to expdedite the process. Moisture alone wont rust a car to oblivion. I think it will be covered in mud and covered in surface rust but the metal will mostly be there. The interior, electrical, and drivetrain will all be a different story though, but thats all repairable. Lets not rebody the thing just yet. I actually had a meeting scheduled on Friday 1 PM EST, but I rescheduled it to watch the unveiling

Just talked to my father in law who is doing some construction in downtown Tulsa at the Courthouse. He too said the car is toast. He said the smell of stagnant water was horrible and that they actually had to treat the area as a hazardous waste clean up site due to whatever chemicals were used on the vault.

Anybody note the japanese? backhoe being used to dig it up???? That would definitely have not been possible in 1957. Oh well!! my vote says it's a good parts car (stainless etc) the rest is toast. less than 48 hours will tell the story Tim

Can't take much more. Oh, the anticipation of this (nothing) event.
For some reason, it's like a car wreck that you just can't look away from.

On the 10 oclock news in Tulsa, they interviewed some of the organizers and I got the feeling it is as bad as feared. They did make light on it and put a good spin it. We shall see!!!

Man, by reading some of the reactions, I thought we were talking about a buried hemi cuda. Just an old car that probably rotted, no different than in a junkyard or back yard. This one just happened to be in a big man made hole.
Interesting to see how bad off it will be.
Well, not all of us think that a Hemi Cuda is the ultimate MoPar. I've personally been waiting for the unearthing for 20 years. One Norwegian guy is supposed to have his '57 Fury flown to the states for this event. The only thing I wish is that the remains of the car will be treated with respect and it would be great if the WPC Museum would end up with the car. I sure hope that the car will be better than these pics indicate and that the weather in Tulsa will be nice during the festivities. It will be a great MoPar show!
Hans
PS I'd hate to see someone like Foose destroy one of Exners finest creations...
