This is what started our conversation (aka argument) about the first funny car.. and to be truthful, I anticipated it to be an easy question to be answered..

So continue on with your discussion, I'm enjoying the history lessons..

Even though it's a 1963 he Jayhawker was built AFTER the factory cars came onto the scene.

My 65 AW started life as a 64 SS car after the original interduction of the factory cars.

Without a doubt, Dyno Don's

Exactly. According to a 1984 TV interview "Fabulous Floppers" with Steve Evens from Diamond P Sports, Don Prudome and Kenny Bernstien...Dyno Don built/designed the first ever "Flip Top Funny Car". This was backed with video footage of an interview with Dyno Don. He went on to say they matched raced this car and it went on to win 39 races in a row. This Funny car was a flip top car known as "Eliminator 1"
This car was the forerunner of what we know as funny cars today.

However it was Gene Snow who introduced the flip top funny car to NHRA. At that time NHRA didnt have a class for Gene Snows Flopper. So they put Gene's Funny car "Rambunctious" into class
"C Fuel Dragster" with all the rail jobs and roadsters. Gene beat them up bad in that class. He won the US Nationals two consecutive years before NHRA created the Funny Car class as we know it.

I was thinking Gene Snow and if I am remembering correctly that he drove it with 1 hand and had the pushbutton panel mounted where the sideview mirror was and had 1 hand on that? Or did I just imagine that? Also didn't Sachs have a blown 65 comet with the Cammer.Didn't He have blown Mustang prior to the Comet? I remember lots of things, lol Mostly things that only happened in my mind, lol, according to my sister-in-law. Getting old is a lot like getting drunk, nobody faults you if you don't remember, lol
