I was wondering about the writing on the side too. It's explained in one of the articles HERE
The 2 beauty queens signed their names in the sides of the vault.
There is also an article on how it was prepped and pics... fun stuff.
At least the bag isn't a smooth, flat lump covering the bottom 6 inches! Still hoping.....

Well, besides the color of the dirt/silt in the water, dont forget I beleieve this car is on some type of steel skid or platform, which could be contributing ot the color of the water, but most likely it is the dirt/silt.

I said in an earlier post that I thought the car was up to the rockers in water, but now it sems it may have gone all the way up to the top. SIne these pix have leaked out, I'll go waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out on a limb and be the sole dissenter and say the bag, and cosmoline have keep the body in okay condition. Interior will be moldy and mildewed, but again I'll go against the grain and say it will be restorable.

Keys will be in the ignition, and as for the 1957 Tulsa resident population guesses that were welded in a tube. I'll say the tube will be found in the interior and it and the contents will be intact

With hindsight it blows me away that this whole affair occured this morning. Talking about putting a dampener on the party. What occured this morning should have taken place with ALL the media in place begining Friday morning.

I don't know if all the digging and taking off of the lid could have been done on the same day as the "unveiling", but I agree that this lessens the fun for Friday.

It's sort of a shame that the location was so public, with all the photos getting out.

Yup, all the money they are gonna lose out on in sponsors, hotel rooms, food vendors and other stuff.

What will become of the vault itself? Will they just fill it in? Excavate it?

Turn it into the city pool?

I doubt if I will take the day off and watch the affair on closed circuit TV from the convention center this Friday. Heck if I was flying in I might cancel my flight...

My thinking too. I WAS going to drive up from Dallas but wont go now.

video of them opening it up

That video actually shows the water was as deep as the top of the trunk lid when they first opened up the vault. The pictures showing lower than that were taken after some of the water was pumped out.

Water invadeds throught the tiniest of holes or cracks, the car might have survived if had been buried out here with adaquate drainage that drained off what little rain we get

But that would have been a long way to drive for all the people celebrating Tulsa's 50th anniversary...
