Time for all the neck ties to have a "lessons learned" meeting and try again...what should we bury this time?

They want to bury a truck this fall actually for the 100th anniversary of the state or something.

Lots of iron in the soil to begin with.

Like how do we get it out of that hole w/o braking it into pieces?

What a bunch of Yahoos! All that planning, money and time for such a big fiasco. Heraldo only had us waiting for a couple of weeks for that vault, these fools were waiting 50 years for that!

Lets have a poll on how many pieces it will brake into when they haul it out. We'll put the winning guesses in a 1977 Chevette and bury it in Arizona for 50 years. The car then can be dug up and the winners (survivors) that are still alive can win the car (because 50 years from now, even a chevette will be worth something).

I bet it will comeout in one piece. I'm guessing that the pad it was on when they dropped it in is still under it.

Probably part of a mid-50's Nuclear Bomb Shelter mentality - for anything to survive for 50 years if would HAVE to be buried in a vault in the ground.

(Or is that Nukuler?)

It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.

IIRC it was sprayed with cosmoline

Fat lot of good that's going to do with the car submerged

Well, let's face it - that vault is nothing more than an over-sized septic tank. But I have complete faith in the car "condom."

FUNNY!

On picture DSC08681.html it looks to me like at least the outer plastic bag is broken...

This pic has the plastic coming out from under the car like it's not completely wrapping it anymore.

And the water lines on the side of the vault look rust colored or it could very well be the red dirt doing it.

The way the crane crew is planning on pulling it out has me suspecting the weight of the motor and trunk will put undo stress on the body and if it's rusty????

It would have been wise to equip the floor of that vault with a drain and an anti-sewer backup check valve. At least that way when water got in, it would have had somewhere to go.

Between all the stuff they sprayed on it, all the water, and time that has passed, it's gonna look pretty sad once it's uncovered.

Notice you can't see the hose underwater either. There's a lot of silt in there.

With hindsight it blows me away that this whole affair occured this morning. Talking about putting a dampener on the party. What occured this morning should have taken place with ALL the media in place begining Friday morning. I doubt if I will take the day off and watch the affair on closed circuit TV from the convention center this Friday. Heck if I was flying in I might cancel my flight...

I don't know if all the digging and taking off of the lid could have been done on the same day as the "unveiling", but I agree that this lessens the fun for Friday.

It's sort of a shame that the location was so public, with all the photos getting out.
