I wonder how much of that water is from the rain after they popped the lid and how much has been there for a long time.

Read the article:

Excavators found evidence that water could have been to the top of the vault at one point, said Art Couch, who is heading up the unearthing project.

Now that it's been exposed to oxygen and light, there she goes!!

BUT, was it full when the top was removed? Now, it was stored in "bags" if you will, so if the "bags" remained intact, just maybe.......

I like this quote...

"Officials retreated to discuss what to do next."

It's like they have built the whole event around the car without figuring on the high probability that it might be flooded.

Like how do we get it out of that hole w/o braking it into pieces?

it is sitting on a steel platform so that shouldn't be that tough. They just need to determine if that is still going to be strong enough to suppor tthe weight of the car or if they need to reinforce it some. I would imagine they are more concerend with how to remove the water.

I'd imagine that vault was pretty dank smelling when they opened it up. Shouldn't take long to pump the water out to get a better look. They already had a good start when the pics were taken.

It's the 1957 Plymouth "New Orleans" Edition.

Yes, but not yet. Let me see if I can work through this depression. Shaky, you are now my most favorite Northern neighbor! Your outpouring of concern for the R/T really warms my heart. Maybe there IS a reason to live even after this devastating soggy car news from Tulsa. I need more sedation now.

Did anyone really think that it was going to be in pristine condition...

Also, even if the bag held up, water always finds a way and take the path of least resistence.

My guess is that water got in the bag. how much is the question.

Well, if water got up to the roof of the vault as it appears it did, it doesn't seem like the bag would reallysave it too much...

I had hoped they would have done something to seal up that vault a little better, but oh well! Live and learn

What'd be cool is if the local Dodge dealer offered to trade the winner straight across for an '07 Charger. Winner gets a new car and the dealer gets good PR.

DCX has basically already made that offer. Any new car wanted they will trade it straight up.
