My only hope is this thread gets archived. There is nothing "fluffy" about it and there have been some very interesting thoughts posted concerning life, liberty, Old Glory and the state of the hobby.

The suggestions about the car's preservation will be forwarded to the appropriate sources, I promise. The suggestion to start with the chamber of commerce is a good one.

That will begin Monday.

When we "pass the hat", mods, can you suggest a holding tank or account for the funds?

That car is so toast. The untreated/painted metal in the car is probably paper thin by the time they treat it. I just can't see sombody killing off other mopars to fix one car.

I'm still waiting for the offical "flush" sound to put an end to this post!

I agree.. Push it back in the pit and bury it.. Somebody needs to put it out of its misery.

Looks like our resident gravedigger ( quickfish??) should be getting kudos on this subject.. He is the one who predicted it would be full of water and ruined....

the science experiment worked, not what everyone expected but the car is what it is...an original 57 with hardly any miles....worth preserving it like a found treasure from the deep ocean for all to see and admire....rest in peace 57.....

Ya know one thing thats not been mentioned here is what the 57 can yield for us in terms of educating those that are into restoration. This car was brand new, as delivered from Plymouth. Even though its covered in rust and mud, it could be invaluable in showing us exactly how the factory assembled it. Things like proper routing of wire harnesses, under hood wire looms, plug wires etc. If they let people who are into this stuff examine and photograph everything in detail the old girl may be able to tell us things we never knew or were wrong about. Just a thought.

It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.

Posted by a DC member that is there. Thanks Skued

No, the car will not be cleaned any further than it is now. The winner, if one is found will be announced June 22. If no winner comes forward next week the car will be held in trust for five years. Then the car will belong to the Tulsa Historical Society.

LOL I'm not the grave digger. I'm the roadant wrangler, remember? I am out of work. Maybe Cornucopia could get me on the night shift. He is a couple hours south of me down in Idaho's "Banana Belt".

I'm afraid that I was an optimist. I figured that the engineers would have done a better job sealing that vault. Disappointing. Especially if they knew about their underground moisture levels, composition, drainage and stuff. Beyond that, it's a cool history lesson. The fact that the film of that car was better preserved than the car itself should teach us something.

Interesting that they left the battery in and the terminals connected. Then again, it really doesn't matter now, does it?

I’m listening.

I'm great!

Anyways I don't think anyone here has a right to say what to do with it. Someone is suppose to win this car. Now I hope they follow through with the original plan, could fall into the wrong hands, but thats how it goes sometimes. I would thing the new owner would trade it for a new one, maybe ebay it, or maybe donate it so more could see it.

As far as a collection to buy it, I have plenty of my own rust buckets here, count me out

The collection I mentioned was not to buy it, but to create a fund to aid in restoration/preservation.

After looking at those pictures I'm pretty sure the car would be in much better shape if they had just parked it on the courthouse lawn for the last 50yrs. I know the original towns people had there hearts in the right place, but its a shame the car had to sit in a whole and not get a chance to at least be a someones family car. At least they didn't decide to do it again with a Hemi Daytona or Gasp a 71 hemi Vert
Oh well... Stuff Happens

Far too many posts to sift through to see what it was for exactly. I still say its up to the lucky winner. I personally couldnt stand letting it as is if it were mine. Id restore it, but I have no chance to win!

Instead of restoring it and burying it again, I say leave it "as is". Trade it for a new car from chrysler and have the new car buried in a new vault.

What car? I got a great one...

The first new challenger to come off the assembly line

They said they would trade ANY new car

Y'know, this has been a great ride. All the commentary - positive and negative, concerning the car - and I think it is really cool, that for the most part, through 1200 posts - there has been a decent conducting of ourselves.

Pat on the back time, folks. And to the mods, thanks for enduring what I feel like has been the coolest thread on MOPARTS since, well, you know, that other one...

So now I've left Tulsa and have some time to reflect on the weekend and a few of the posts here.

I don't know why there is so much disappointed energy running through this site. Sure, it would have been nice to see a nicely preserved car emerge from the hole, but that's not what happened. This event is about the optimism of the people of 1957 and the future of Tulsa, OK. This was before we became a nation as we know it today (48 states during that time). It was before the tragedy of Vietnam and subsequent wars. No feminist manifesto had ever been written yet. And this little frontier city did something that represented a quintessential moment for that time. It's all about our history and the celebration of America before she took that hit of LSD and got all weary. Now she's got crow's feet around her eyes and she's not as idealistic as she used to be, but she's also a better America for it. So why can't we recognize what just went down in Tulsa, OK instead of having to speculate, criticize, and what-not? I had a nice time, I enjoyed meeting Perry and Tim, and there even was a Shelby/Ford event that added to the fun. I wish more of you could have witnessed the unique experience instead of the tainted cuppa joe that seems to be eminating from this site.
