Grrrrr. And this ISN'T about the city this time. Here is what I spent far too much of my Wednesday doing this week: As some EST attendees know all too well, I have a fleet of a certain unnamed non-Mopar model of car in extensive use as daily drivers (6 total; 4 registered and in daily use). The college daughter's unit left her stranded in the parking lot of the local JC. I am sure that falling asleep in it during a long break between classes with the stereo and fan running had NOTHING to do with it. Low-battery-clicking-solenoid turned into no noise at all when we tried giving it a jump. Bear in mind that this particular day she had gotten a "real good" parking spot, which means that she was up close where there is never an open spot that lasts for more than 23 seconds from 7am through 10pm. So, rather than fiddling with it there, I had AAA get it home for me (no way I am messing with the truck+trailer in that frenetic part of the lot). Once home, I found out in short order (nyuk, nyuk) that all was fine with the starter & solenoid. The problem lie with the start circuit. My choice (which turned out to be a poor one) was to begin out at the solenoid end, and work back. I have no factory shop manual, just the Haynes/Chiltons stuff with really poor wiring diagrams, so I am using a loose harness from a parting-out project as a guide. Solenoid back to fan cut-out relay? OK. Fan cut-out relay? OK. Fan cut-out relay to NSS? OK. Neutral safety switch? OK. NSS to buried, mystery relay? OK. Buried, mystery relay? OK. Mystery relay to underdash harness? OK. moving on to underdash... Connector up to ign switch harness? whisky tango..?????? Then, a vague memory from 18 years ago comes back. I purchased this particular car new for my M.I.L. back in late '93. Of course, the dealership had added the usual array of "options", that included fabric protectant and an antitheft device. The latter made use of a dongle that you were supposed to insert into a small, innocuous socket down under the lower dash cover. Sez me back then: "Please, kind sirs, remove this device, as I don't feel your asking price for this fine piece of engineering is a fair one." (Okay, maybe it wasn't those exact words. Perhaps it even included the sun not shining.) Responded them: "It's too intricate to simply remove. We'll just reprogram it to be non-operational, so you won't need to insert the dongle doo-dad. This [unimportant until now] memory comes back to me, as I find this cheesy plastic box containing a printed circuit and relay, whose sole job seems to be to interrupt the start circuit. Snip, snip, snip (the third snip was a zip tie), re-splice the start circuit, and voilą - a few hours of my life gone for good (but the daughter back on the road). Apparently, something with the low-voltage attempts to start the car blew the "programming" from the long-forgotten box. What an epic waste of time.
Down to just a blue car now.

Sounds like an easy run of the mill day.....nothing shocking about it.
Peter has been here a few weeks now, and things are going along as "normal" for us..
Oh, and I have a Suburban half way down the warehouse now as well
Oh, and the burgandy truck is to very far Southern shores and has been replaced (well, loading it next week).

The aircraft IV the rest of your No Jeffs world tour awaits.
There is a row of refrigerated containers parked at the container yard next to where I load mine, and there are on a whole row of them I saw there today...
I guess having them flown in would save precious PLF smiting time (and make NoJeffs meetings go even quicker)

Are you on Facebook Gary? If so...... You can find more than a few old aircraft side profiles if you search for Alaskan Aviation History.

Did you note the name on the plane?
It is real, it actually flew here.
Yep I saw....was trying to think of a punch line to go with it but just too worn out today
(going to swap meet early in the morning too )
Only another week of container stuff, then time to relax a little
