I recently received my IBM punch card from Chrysler and they decoded everything but the engine. I e-mailed a copy of my punch card to a fellow moparts member and from what he could tell it's a max wedge or hemi motor but not sure which one. Just wanted to know if anyone has the books/info to decode this for me. Send me a PM with your e-mail address and I will send you my punch card.

The IBM punch cards were basically build sheets for the factory's computer system. They were "read" by the computers to establish what cars were to be built what day and with what options, etc. I believe the build sheets were generated from the IBM punch cards....

My dad used to bring home stacks of the for me to play with.... If only I knew back then!

Its just too bad that the IBM punch cards were lost for all the 1969 cars.

I was told a fire destroyed them but then was told by a good source that all the 1969 cards were lost in a flood.

What a loss of great information.

From the 71superbee web-site...

Send a letter requesting your Build Record to:

Chrysler Historical Collection
CIMS 410-11-21
12501 Chrysler Freeway
Detroit, Michigan 48288

Be sure to include the VIN of the car in question and a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Many of the folks working on this are volunteers, so help them out any way you can.

You must provide proof of ownership (title) for Build records.... click link below:

Chrysler Heritage site

A little more background info:

Helpfull stuff..

John, they have punch cards for '67 cars for sure. Possibly not '68 cars.

the cards are only avaliable thru 67 and its a photocopy not the real card. it is a photocopy from microfish and it cost $45 DOLLARS IF YOU CAN READ IT OR NOT.

I was thinking they changed systems after 67 as well and might not have even used IBM cards anymore.( thats about when there where big changes in codes and broadcast sheets as well). I have seen something tha looks like IBM cards stuck in seats before but it think if was something the seat maf use not Chrysler.

There comes a time in life, when you walk away from all the drama & people who create it. You surround yourself with people who make you laugh, forget the bad, and focus on the good.

As stated above, it was the first step in generating the broadcast sheets. The pre-67 cards than Hemi Harvester referred to contain all the the critical data for your car that would be on the BS...the VIN, SO number, engine, tranny, sales options, etc, etc, just in a different format. I've seen some that are easy to read and some that are impossible. They are decoded similar to a BS.

The quality control IBM cards found in some cars are similar and contain some info but I don't think they are as detailed as the one pictured above.

Hello, I have a really mangled broadcast sheet, but a pristine Broadcast Quality, Punch Card. Where can I get this read, and a new Broadcast Sheet produced? Any help is appreciated!

Here's one I found behind the rear seat back in a '73 Dart Sport:

I found 2 in my back seat. One is reddish/pink and the other looks like the one posted above. If I remember, I'll post a pic of them tonight.

The bad thing is that they most likely won't be for my car. The build sheet I found was for a Cuda, not a Challenger.

Well this is mine:

I still would like to get someone to read it so I can complete the broadcast sheet. I have the torn up broadcast sheet and the correct punch card in perfect condition. You can't win em all

I might have to get everything rekeyed when this thing is rolling

The Quality control cards do not contain the same info as the production cards (the one I posted above) that you get from Chrysler Historical. All of the information encoded in the punch card is printed on the top line. There is no more info to be gained by decoding the card. Sorry...

Decoding a punch card is not that big of deal. If you just sit down with a card and look at it, it only takes about 15 minutes to see the patterns.
