It is possible... when I saw it 5 years ago it had an Indy motor. That or my memory really is that bad.

i would just do it and ignore those that says its wrong, most fast mopar cars are not realy all that much mopar anyway, they are more indy, edelbrock, holley, hooker, eagle, scat, mark williams, diamond, rci, bds, weiand and or any other brand, leave that boring my car is mopar or no car for the stock restauraiton guys, for me the guys how feel diferent can keep on playing with those j heads and stock converters and see where the limit is..

WOW!!! lots of hostilites lol I do find it funny that everyone will go off the deepend about swaping in a GM motor but It is ok to have a pinto/mustang front end or a PG trans or 9" ford...Whats the difference? Like others stated, what is left mopar in your car if you run an aftermarket block, heads, cam, crank, etc.? Also can someone name a new efi motor that mopar has produced that has six bolt mains, aluminum heads that flow 300+ on the intake, roller cam, coil on plug....and most of all AFFORDABLE to build. The new hemi gets close but every part for it costs $500 and up

Just leave your hood closed and tell people it is a small block. Go racing and have fun.

Sounds like you have already made up your mind to jump ship. So why ask this question on a Mopar board? By the way when most people say Mopar or No car they are talking about motors and bodies. It is still a Chrysler power plant even though it has aftermarket parts in it. Just like all new powerglide transmissions have nothing to do with the original powerglide, but it's still considered a GM transmission.

Why not just go to the nearest trailer park and find one of the mullet heads to sell you a Camaro or Firebird for about 500 bucks?

I agree, as NOBODY will buy a turbo 6.0L pwrd Dart Sport when you are done with it, but they WOULD buy a Turbo LSX Chevelle, Camaro..whatever.

If you go Chevy, go the whole way.

It depends on how much boost you are going to put into it.
Compression is real high, close to 11.1 in the ls2.

The Alum. block are not all that stroung alot of guys like the ls truck blocks b/c they are strouger "iron"

If you are going to make a lot of power you are going to need an LSX block or at least change the pistons out for lower compression ones.

Plus the price of the computer and wiring for the engine.

Cost on either motor will be close to the same as both will need alot of non-stock parts depending on the build you want.

What ever you decided it is your car have fun with it.

Same can be said about the new hemi engines minus the sixbolt crank "which is a weak point" but cost the 6.0 will also be cheaper both are great motors.

It is a 440-1 572ci Mopar in that Firebird. I spoke to the guys the other week when they were running Outlaw Drag Radial.

Their chassis since then has been declared illegal due to modifications to run the class. Neat car!

I have considered the same thing in the past. Part of the reason why I looked at crossing my Dart was built to fit me (that 6 inches of seat setback made a huge difference for me).

Good luck in whatever you decide.

This is where Mopar has seriously been lacking for so long now.

all through the 90s you had the Mustang 5.0 - which any kid could get a hold of and do minor mods to it, afford it and have fun racing it and screwing around with it. Then came the LT1 cars from GM and later the LS1 cars. Run pump gas, drive to the track with bolt on parts and run high 10s, low 11s. Thats flat out flying in a car that gets 20+mpg, better than anything mopar has put out in a long time - for the cost that is. Yes I know the Viper is there blah blah blah.

Now we have the Challenger, which are all over the place as far as ETs and HP as evident from this forum alone. They cost a bunch, and weigh a ton.

Mopar lost alot of fan base with the younger crowd by having NOTHING to fit that base. Yeah we had the Neon SRT4 or what ever. But no real muscle.

I have looked for a good LS1 car for a while. They are fun cars, very reliable powerplant. Some tranny issues when you start pressing them hard, but thats to be expected.

Im not sure I would go the route you are going, for the simple reason as someonen else stated. When your done, your not going to have a very sellable car. For the same price you could buy a camaro, or bird, drive it to the track run faster. Handle better and have something that can sell very easily. Problem is, you have a newer body style F body - which are not rare, and can be seen just about anywhere, with anybody driving one. Doesnt have the appeal of the older iron.

With all that said - its your car, your sweat, and your tears. Be proud of what ever you put together and enjoy it.

Im not overly brand loyal, I lean towards Mopar. But they dont pay me to advertise for them. If all things created equal I would perfer to be in a mopar, but at times I have owned and raced GM cars as well.

I got a good look at an LS1 back when they were brand new. There was a warranty on an SS Camaro at a friends shop, the new engine was apart and all over the floor for some reason. I was rather impressed. I've always hated the SBC, and this new plant seemed to solve a lot ov the old SBC problems. Ironically (a Chevy hater) i was the only guy at the GM dealership excited about it.

Fast forward however many years and i'm sick ov hearing about the damn things. Good engines? sure. But Chevy guys are all ov a sudden swooning over these things like they were built by Jesus hisself.

That said, i'd rather my Challenger go fast with a brand X powertrain, and efficiently, than go slow, for twice the price (and twice the fuel) with a Mopar powertrain. All things equal, Mopar has given us nothing to work with in comparison. To the original poster i say go for it.

The real bonus is that you can bolt up a REAL stick for less than $4000. Another area where we just dont have any options.

But personally... i'd stick a 4.6 or 5.4 DOHC Ford mod motor in there. Now THAT is a sexy engine. I'd put one ov those in my Mopar anyday. The added bonus ov beating big block Mopars with a 281cid engine (even a N/A one) would be icing on the cake...

I'd take that race.

Reminds me of about 8 years ago running all Mopar in my Mopar and running 10:80's with a small block @ 3600lbs . Guy pitted next to us and had a slammed down gutted big block Camaro, all glass save 1/4's and roof, running mid nines, had Chevy Thunder wrote all over it. After looking it over, pretty much everything aftermarket, had a JW trans and Ford 9" rear, He lovingly refered to My Cuda as a Slowpar, but He got more than a little peturbed when I suggested he nearly had as much Ford Parts as Chevy in his drivetrain. He claimed it was all Chevy! I offered to run him heads up if He made his collection of aftermarket parts weigh as much as my Slowpar! LOL
