Great info Bill, Were you ever able to dig up any info reguarding plant work stopage or strikes at the Winsdor plant that may shed light on some orange 340 going into car after the blue swich over date? After we talked about my 4/2/71 spd Demon 340, (orange engine with a Asy date of 11/16/70) I found out the history from new to about 1979 on my Demon, engine was always orange. Thanks Mike

What spots would the KV stamped hose have been used on orginally ? Also, what are the correct clamps for the 3 port breather and the brake booster ?

Another thing I have been wondering about.
Exhaust manifolds, Since they were bolted to the motor prior to painting, Wouldnt they be pretty much entirely covered with paint instead of the slightly over sprayed look most people believe is correct ?

I know If I were painting them at the factory I wouldnt bother trying to keep the paint off of them. I would just cover them completely.

moparo,

Don't get me wrong, not picking on your car/engine, it looks fantastic. However that looks like blue paint overspray on the upper rad hose, back of the alternator, assosiated wiring harness, and throttle return spring? If so that isn't original.

Scott.
I do not own that car. When did you see that car anyway?

Scott, the picture Adam posted had the earlier intake with the little hump on the back side, your pics show the "spring" intake having the hump. My car is a late build July 9th and has that hump, is this correct for my car?

Not sure I follow you but here's the deal.

The "hump" is the spring intake (cast in Jan 71 or so, first used in march or so of 1971 or so) I've never seen an original "Hump" intake painted any other color but blue and I've never seen one cast before January or 71.

Besides the Anchor head markings I have seen a bunch with "E". Intake and valve covers.

Thanks Scott , Guess my question was confusing,, but you answered it, my engine is blue and has the hump. From an earlier post I thought the picture of the hump stated it was cast in January and the one without in May, but must have been May of 1970, and the hump in January of 1971. Whew!...

Thats what I used with a piece of KV hose for the vent line to the apron which I believe had a crimpped clamp on the oher end originally. What about the line to the carb ? Same clamps ?

71 "long" manifold bolts.

"D" with strikes at 12, 4, and 8 o'clock.

71 "short" manifold bolts.

Very hard to see, but there is a capital letter A in the center, as well as strike marks at 12, 4, and 8 o'clock.
