Need pics mostly of the throttle kickdown side, pics without air cleaner, also what were the bolt head markings on the intake manifold bolts, valve cover bolts, t-quad bolts, did the valve covers have the little triangle hold downs? Sorry for the dumb questions but i've never seen a original untouched 71 340.

I'm no expert at all, but I was lucky enough to have owned a original 71 340 4 speed RT challenger when I was 17. It was completly stock when I got it in 1977. Sadly I totalled that car after only about 6 months. So sorry I can't help because I didn't own a camera back then and don't remember what it looked like. But I kept everything off that car, junked the body, I know junked!!

Pictures from Bill Sefton's EV2 71 Demon 340 super survivor would really help. I thought it was at some Illinois Area shows recently??

This is the best I have. Should help you with other things though. I think it had the air cleaner on all day. It was convered in full color in MCG once. Others may have better pics of it.

The intake bolts have a sunken head with a captive washer and an anchor stamped on the head. The valve covers had the same thing but smaller bolts. The carb is bolted down with bolts that have an "H" on the top with no washers.

Adam,

Some of those pics you posted on that other thread were ones I sent you, here's some story on them.

The grimey looking complete engine less carb is mostly original, it's good for most detail references.

The complete restored looking engine has a few mistakes, it's "pretty" but I wouldn't use that one as a correct detailing reference.

The intake photo side by side is correctly labled according to thier casting dates.

I have more pics of Bills Survivor 71 340 Demon (orange car) that I took when it was OE judged in Vegas, some without the air cleaner. It has a 1972 replacement carb and a few other minor details wrong on top. I'll post pics when I dig them up.

Good point, my 71 had a blue engine in it.

Yes, the April (ish) 1971 is the changover date most agree on concerning when the color change was made, the exact changover date is yet to be proven (I doubt it ever will be). The 2 intakes shown side by side in the link above show a small casting difference, it is thought that the engine color change happened about the time they started using the revised casting so most cars built after March 71 should likey have this intake style.

(Attachment is a 71 Cuda 340 convertible, I believe it has a June 71 build date, shows the correct late 71 340 color)

Here is a "survivor" 71 340 engine in a Duster, It has had some touch up so use caution duplicating details.

This 71 Duster 340 has been restored and placed well in restored original judging, however, I would be cautious using it's finer details as reference.

Thanks guys, so I'm assuming the ancore head bolts for the intake and V/C's are generally accepted correct, I've herd RCS head markings and H like Steve340 said are both generally correct. How about the coil bolts, and did the V/C's have the little triangle washers under some of the bolts?. Also in the pics below my 340 has what i think is a incorrect throttle cable bracket (disreguard the homemade aluminum spacer), does anyone know what it is for? Also is the threaded adjustable kickdown linkage part repoped, as you can see i modified it to work with the setup i have. Thanks a bunch.

Here's one of my buddy Ron's late build date 71 340 Demon mill, the picture isnt that good. I just went over today and used it for reference for my 71 340. It has TR on the carb bolts, no anhcors on the intake bolts, as far as i know the all came with 45 deg oil adapters.

It looks to be extended upwards becuase of the aftermarket higher rise intake and the holley carb.

I don't know if 71 had a different thottle cable bracket.

This one is listed in some places for 68-70

Picture from Bill Allphin's site: http://www.amhightechauto.com/ Check with him for the kickdown linkage. Are you sure your's is modified. It just looks like some ground the end link rounded and added a lock nut (neccessary?)
