Hey guys I got a 66 Valiant that has a trim piece across the back deck lid that says PLYMOUTH. its a tad banged up. This car is going be a back halfed high 10 second street/strip car. Its going have fiberglass bumpers that im planning to spray a battelship gray. Is there a way I can paint that chrome trim to match it. Its not potmetal so there is no pitting just some dings. Do I have to have the chrome stripped or can I just scuff and paint it? Also for the dings could I use some filler if the metal is roughed up enough for it to bite? Thanks

It's more than likely stainless. Scuff it REALLY good. use a good quailty self etching primer and it might stick. Same if it is aluminum.

I think best way would be to remove the trim and work the dents out from the back side, just as you would to polish it. You can certainly try body filler but given the small area adhesion my be an issue, as when you reinstall it the filler could crack and possibly fall off.
