mike_vango OP super stock Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 1,167 ERIE PA home of the RENCH MOB	Car wouldn't run right. Timed it tuned it now the vacuum advance is pointing toward the front of the motor after we got it running right. Could the timing chain jump or skip a tooth during a banzai run? Engine is a 400ish hp 360.

MNobody master Joined: Feb 2005 Posts: 4,884 Michigan	Chain and gears shouldn't be bad as long as it wasn't a loose fit to begin with. So the car was running fine when you parked it but you had to reset the timing and stuff the next time you started it?

Well, since "we" don't know where it USED to point, that statement doesn't mean much You using ?? what ?? for ignition, points, Mopar ECU, Pertronix, etc? Mallory/ Accell or some home made thing off yer Granpas tractor? HOW FAR DID YOU move the distributor? From the sounds of things, and "we" are only guessing, SOMETHING has changed. What kind of upper sprocket (they are NOT gears) are you using?

WINGCARS_6970 master W Joined: Feb 2003 Posts: 7,595 TX , NJ , FL	The newer stuff may have better gears sprockets etc .But I had a 74 318 1 owner challenger 40K orig miles .Chain was slapping plastic coming off it.I check any car Im working on by my method.Before chain lets go Diagnose how bad a timing chain was on scene .Was with pair of gloves grabbing fan belt to move crank pulley.Or socket turning motor if I had the socket. Potential problem. Once changed out with a good set it is unlikely to happen again.

It is a good way to tell if the timing set is bad.
