On your Indy Maxx aluminum block on the bronze bushing in the block the dist. gear (also bronze)sets on.
Should it be down flush with the block?
The one in my block looks to be about a 1/16 above the block(sticking up)and it has wore the bottom side of the bronze dist. gear down. It has made a ferfect grove the size of it that sticks out of block in the bottom side of the bronze dist. gear. It looks like them being pressed against each other may have heated up the bushing and made it try to gall to the shaft. Please Help!!! THANKS

The bushing should set flush on the block.Clearence should be checked so that the distributer is not putting downward pressure on the drive gear and shaft. To check this install the distrbuter and make sure there is some free up and down movement by picking up on the rotor. If there is no free play you may be loading the bushing and causing your wear problem.

THANKS Bob, Will I have a problem getting it to go down about a 1/16"? I tried to look down into it to determine if thats was as far down as it would go but could not tell. Thanks again

The bronze bushing in the block under the bronze dist. gear was not the problem,it was all the way down. I took it out just to make sure.

I know I must replace my bronze dist. gear because the little lip(looks like a washer on the bottom of it)is wore almost up to the base of the gear.

What should I do when I replace both gears if there is not enought clerance between the two? Should I use another bronze bushing or try to find a aluminum one. THANKS

Try to find out why the bad one wasn't seated against the block first and correct that, if that doesn't work machine the top of the bushing to get at least .005 or more clearance between the gear and the bushing I have never had the problem your having so

The old bushing was seated,I found that out the hard way. In the aluminum block it looked like it was not seated. So I tried to knock it on down and when it would not go down,I pulled the oil pump and knocked it out. I have been running Big Block Mopar for 25 years never had this problem before. First time I have ever knocked out one of these bushings. But I did learn this much, I hit it pretty hard trying to knock it down(did not think it was already flush)but only give it a little tap and it pop right out. Right down into the oil pan, another lesson learned the hard way. Not the way I planned on doing it.

Mr Cab_Burge,Thanks for the info. I have thought about that also, but that alone may not be enought. I just hope either the bushing or dist. gear was off.
Anyone else have any more suggestion's just in case I need them? THANKS!!!!!
