I changed out an 8.75 on my 64 Polara for a Dana rear. As I installed my driveshaft this week I noticed that the pinion yolk on the Dana is centered, whereas the 8.75 yolk is offset about 1-2 inches. More investigation showed that the tranny/motor is also offset to match the rear. So in essence my driveshaft has about a 1-2 degree left to right angle. Is this going to be a problem for a 10.5 second car???? Gears are 4.10 and should see about 6800 rpm.

I have just been through this, the Dana i bought came from a tube chassis car with rack and pinion.
I cut different length tubes on both sides, swapped them side for side along with the half shafts and got the offset back. I pulled it apart and measured everything first though.

I just did this and you need to move off center
about 1 and 5/8 of a inch toward the pasenger side.

longer driver side axle

Drivers side axle tube total length should be 1 3/8" longer than pass side.

Here's a good thread where Dr Diff hits on it and all the measurements.

As long as the trans and pinion are parallel its
not a issue... it just works the U-joints ALL the time
but if you have big power you would like the complete
drive line to be in line under power

Dana is same width as the stock 8.75 although I moved the springs inboard and got offset wheels. The setup is brand spankin new, never been run....
I didn't even notice until I put my max wedge exhaust in and noticed that the pass side pipe was way closer to the driveshaft than the driver side.
Man I really don't want to pull this thing again. I'll give the shop I purchased it from (leonards Offroad) a call and see what he thinks.

when I did mine I cut it so that both axel's are the same length because I used the same one's from the 8.75 that I removed and they are equal length, but I have a modified stock K member also.

The engine should be somewhere in the neighborhood of 680hp. It is a 500 RB built by Damon Kuhn. Trans is a CRT pro II trans brake, stall is 4800 - 5200. I am trying to set the car up as w wedge type clone and to run somewhere in the high to mid 10 sec range.
