You'll get lots of different answers with some folks swearing at and other swearing for practically every brand made.

For better or worse I've always run Champions, but with the fuel that's available a couple of heat ranges higher than the factory called for. So, in your case that would probably be a J12Y (old number). Remember each car is different.

I gapped mine(Autolite) @ .050 with the MSD. I read that with the MSD you can have a wider gap for a bit more spark.

I tried a few others but she works great with the RJ12YC.....I gapped mine to .045 as I run the MSD 6AL box. Mine is a 440 with 906 heads.

For the last 15+ years I've used Autolite #85 too, gap mine at 35 but I'm just running the standard MP ignition.

I've been running autolites as well. Had the same set in the car for the last 4 years, and I daily drive the 440. Popped them out last week when I pulled out the motor and they are in great shape, plug is still really clean. Not bad for an unopened, tired smogger 440. Before that I was running champions and found I had to change them every year.

I never had a set of Champions that lasted. Years ago in my 12 to 1 charger they wouldn't last a week. Been using autolite ever since. They last. I do use champion in my lawn mower
