Has anyone tried the Hughes Rockers since they started their CNC program? I am wanting to get a set of rockers for my 340 and was going to go Crane Gold but they are out of business, thoughts??

Are you sure they actually make these? Most of the things that are "Hughes" brand are actually made by other companys. They like to make it sound like they helped design/makes them...but usually that is not the case. Not that they sell bad stuff....it is usually quality stuff though.

I've got a set of the older ones, about six years old. They've held up great, I had to clearence them for this build as RyanJ used a larger o.d. spring than I ran in the past.

I used their rockers, shafts and hold down kit. No problems. Rockers assembly is 1.5 years old and 35 runs on them...Matt

I want to put them in my street/strip car. I would get the shafts, hold downs, and rockers if I were to get them. Are Crane Golds even still available?? What are the life cycles of both?

Thanks, those are mine. I cant believe the differnce in the quality and size between the two. Cranes are probaly fine for low spring presures. I have no info on the Hughes, but I have heard good things. Andrew

Nothing wrong with the Hughes stuff. I've used their rockers before; 660+lbs. open spring pressure w/ no problems whatsoever.

I am running a .540 solid flat tappet cam. Someone told me a little while ago that the Hughes rockers weren't that good because they weren't very consistent, but he made sure he stated that it was before their CNC program they started, so they may be better now.

I can see that there is more meat and therefore a stringer rocker (all variables thrown out as far as material differences go) but I have heard that the Harland (and Comp Cams) rockers have problems with the needle bearing races on the fulcrum in that they are kind of prone to break. I have even seen it myself in two different cases so that has scared me from Harlands, even though the cams ran were a bit larger than mine and therefore had more spring pressure put on them. Has anyone else had this problem?

I run these rockers on my Challenger. The Hughes CNC rockers are made by Probe Industries. The older ones I bought needed to have the oil feed holes to the rocker adjuster screws connected (i.e. a groove added) to the main oil feed channels to ensure that they were getting lube full time. I also opened up the size of the feed holes because they weren't drilled to a consistent size from one rocker to another.

The latest rockers I've gotten from them now have the first problem corrected, but I'm still going to open the oil feed holes' size to the same as my others. The size of the holes are too small, IMO.

Also, check new rockers closely to make sure the roller tips move freely and smoothly. I've had a problem w/ a couple of rockers where the roller tip was binding, rather than moving smoothly, and needed to be exchanged.

Thank you for the input on that. I don't know much about valvetrain oiling. How much bigger should the holes be??

I don't recall exactly how big mine are now... probably at least .090". I compared them to Crane and Dove rockers I had around at the time and opened them up to be more like what those were.

I have heard Hughes are accually Probe rockers, and If Im spending what they want for a non roller fulcrum and I have big money in my heads/engine, Ill spend another $200 and buy the Harland SHarps. I can get a set for my Brodix B1BA small blocks heads with an offset back shaft set up for large springs from Harland for $850. I have to save fo an extra 2 months, but I should be worry free for a LONG TIME!!!

Nothing wrong with the Hughes stuff, just dont like the fact they dont offer a bearing fulcrum.

Kasey

The old extruded rockers were made by Dove.
