I understand the 66-67 B body 8 3/4 rear ends are slightly narrower than the 68-70 ones.

Is the distance between the spring pad to the back of the drum backing plate the same or is that where it is shorter?

It's shorter in overall width , perch to perch dimension is the same so yes it's the distance from the pad to the end flange

That will make a difference in correct rim backspacing when I play stuff the tire under the wife's Challenger.
