the stock performance 440 4spd 3.23 that you bought to drive around advertised 375hp. The numbers were all loaded.

A starndard 4 speed 440 wasn't a high reving plant. shifts over 4,800-5rpm weren't nesscary. the low rpm torque peak kills its top end potential. However a 440 stock 2783 cam mill with 4 speed can produce about 300 rwhp.

Can't really go by the published hp numbers. Late 60's numbers were measured SAE Net AND at the crank. So you'd likely have to cut ~30-40% off to get all the way from SAE Net @ crank to SAE Gross @ wheels.

You're trying to compare apples and oranges. Unless the SAME dyno is used for the test, it's worthless. No 2 dyno's will produce the identical rwhp numbers for the same car/setup.

I'd like to see a truly stock 440 make 300whp...as I would assume that particular dyno is a bit generous.

you will make more ponys by changing to a different set of heads. I had a set of 516s on my 71 RR. at the 1000 ft make it would quit pulling. changed to a set of 452s and it pulled hard all through the 1320...

I am truckless..

i gust read a artical where mopar performance tested a 440 that was 100% stock. 240 rear wheel horsepower. a second artical test a diffrent one 252 horsepower. and a 69 six pack 4 speed stock made 280.

seems like im doing pretty good for a automatic with exaust manfolds and 516 heads. sense the dyno day i switched to headers and gave it a tune up. what a upgrade id like to dyno again and think it would make close to 300 hp. the car moves very well. its a 76 duster that weighs only 3300 lbs. this summer im buying slicks and going to the track. any guesses on the et?

Like said, only runs on the same dyno are worth comparing. Everything else is apples to oranges. You should be putting out good power and if your car is really that light you should be well into the 12's at least.

Probably.

With a mild cam, headers and otherwise stock long block ( intake, heads, pistons, etc.) and 9.5:1 mine made right at 320 at the rear wheels.

It was rated at 350 and my mods added about 50 gross HP so gross it was right at 400.

Flywheel dude! No alternator P/S pump etc. Mopar was pretty close on their HP ratings except the Hemi. They were low on that for insurance purposes.

well that's not bone stock. In any case that sounds about right. My 67 GTX had a stock 440 except the CH4B, auto w/ 3.55 gears it ran thru the traps at around 98mph according to most hp calculators that's about 280 at the rear wheels given the car+drive weigh 3850.

From what I can remember Mopar Action did a stock buildup of a 383HP engine and it made right at 335 HP at the crank. So that being the case I would surmise that the 440HP engines probably dynoed at or at least close to the advertised 375 at the crank.

One of my buddys was getting 305-310rwhp out of a mostly stock '67 440 in a 67 R/T, as in mostly stock it had been rebuilt with flat tops at 0 deck, had a MP magnum resto cam, a 750 AVS off a '69 but still the OE 67 air cleaner, the 915's had been rebuilt with a good valve job but no porting, standard non HP manifolds with a 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust and full size dynomax hemi mufflers.

On M&H G60 street slicks it runs 12.8's@107, it's all low RPM he shifts at 5400 and it floats the valves at 5800.
