I was talking to a nhra E/SA 340 6pk racer and he said nhra allows the piston to be .045 out of the hole. I just did a 340 an used L2316 piston w/ a 1.84 cd and they ended up .035 out of the hole. This block has been decked,I'm sure your right about the .018 factory spec. Thanks Ryan

+ .045" is NHRA Blueprint spec on 68-71 340.......not factory specs.

and for this particular engine the chambers would have to be relieved, and so like edelbrock maybe they should offer two heads

Other than the KB pistons, most manufacturers, that still
have a shelf piston, offer them in a true flat-top around
1.804" CH or less.

I'd rather have a decent closed chamber and zero deck, myself
or custom for OEM chambers.

But I've got to work with the parts and budget I have been presented with

so we can use a 1.725 spring on these heads?
I Want to transfer my springs and valves. But if not I rather spend the money on porting my magnums

So if the seats can be machined down these seem like the front runner for a more budget minded 450 to 500 hp engine, grind off the Indy/ RHS logo and they look close to stock heads at a glance. What would these heads do to the hp in F.A.S.T. sb engines?

Will W2 headers work with these heads?

Yes, its a dual bolt pattern, but if you have the type that use adapters like Hookers you might need to modify the flange that bolts to the head.

Thanks. I read the Hughes ad where they said the heads had the dual bolt pattern on the exhaust. The shape of the exhaust port concerned me. I have a set of TTi W2 headers the 1 5/8 to 1 3/4 step header.

Probably get you to 11.70's and no more. Because thats the ET when they pull your valve cover and check for a casting number.

They won't even have to pull the covers as they look different from the outside, especially the INDY/RHS logos.

At a glance they are close. I am going to try and use them in a dirt track car and pass them off as factory X heads. Our tech guys are chebby lovers and know little about mopars.

At a track or series with knowledgeable people....forget it.

My factory magnums are at 1.760 IH and I haven't had a problem. We cut the seat and used a +.050 retainer that Hughes has. We ran at 6800 MAX RPM. I do not build heads like some of these guys do. so take that for what it is worth.
