My last engine was a Indy Maxx block, that was on the tight side. About .004-.0045 Thats about as tight as I would ever run one, it ran great with no problems. I guess .006-.009 would be idea. BTW How is the work out there? Our hall has very little going on.. Bob J.I.W. Local 769 Ashland Ky

Yes .002 That is what the Factory Service Manual says. So, .002 would be good for a stock 160 horse 318 motor or..........

Very dead here. I worked about 6 weeks this year here and there. My bank acct is def feeling it.
They say it's supposed to get better next year I've been trying to scrape up cash jobs but they are very hard to find as well..

Almost any clearance in a motor, MORE would be better.
But just so you know, I ran my 474 CI R3 W9 Motor at .002. It went to .004 after I started it and drove it easy for a few miles and then never got any worse. I would not run a High HP motor at .002 if it is in a Race Car and you are going to lean on it right away.
On the other end of the specrum, the thrust clearance can be quite a bit before anything bad happens. The real limit here is the crank counterweights hitting the block. So if you had a new bearing and the crank thrust surface was good you could easily run it at .010- .012 or even more.
I just took one apart that I was racing the day before and it was .018 with no ill effects (other than me finding copper in the oil filter). You would have never known it.
