I broke a piston in my motor 2 wks ago and ruined it. It was a basic 440, stock bore, pistons, closed chambered iron heads with larger valves with a .533 mopar performance purple camshaft. (rated 3600-6300 rpm) It would 60ft 1.54-1.56 and run high 7.1s to mid 7.2s @ 93 mph in the 1/8th mile and I'd shift at 6000. I put my backup motor in which is 30 over, scat rods, 440 source alum heads, lunati voodoo .533/552 camshaft, (2500-6500) it leaves like a bear 1.48-1.49 60ft, but it feels like it runs out of motor at 5800 rpm and only went a 7.03 @ 95mph. I let everything else alone, and then started jetting the carb up to see if that would help and it really didn't and plugs look fine. The carb is a 750 holley dp, wieland alum intake, converter is a 5000 stall. I'm thinking maybe the cam has something to do with it stalling out, but not really sure, anyone have any thoughts on what maybe causing this?

You can retard the cam a couple of degrees to change the power band a little. try a pit a open plenim spacer under teh carb, A spacer gave me acouple hundred more with out killing my low end.

I am thinking bigger carb. Can you get someone to loan you one to try out?

I'm thinking carb but also if you cant get the shift point
higher you have too much converter.... stall should
be near your peak torque but about 1500 below the shift.
Did you degree the cam in, whats the installed degree
and what is the LSA

You gotta think, that mopar cam is 272 @ .050 and 320 advertised and that lunati is what? under 296 advertised? quite a big difference in cam size.

Cam is installed in the center. The duration on the old cam was 272 the new cam is 242/252. Would a 850 cfm be large enough?

that hydraulic cam is medium small I would say it's out of cam and possibly heads as the steath as shipped don't flow that great. Cam is my main bet

My kid has the same problem. We put my reworked 516s with bigger valves on his 62 300.The Hughes cam is too small. He runs out of power at like 5600.It is consistenet though at 13.7s.It was running at 13.7 to 13.8 before with the tiny heads that were stock.Still not bad for a 4200 pound car that still has all the OE lower end.Thinking about the Lunati Voodoo cam for it now.Rocky
