Hey gang.. This is concerning the '69-'70 model year, '71 was completely different. I should know the answer to this since I owned one for over a decade, but here's my question. I know the carb rod in the automatic kickdown system for 440 six packs is different than the 4bbl counterpart. But, is the tranny adjustable rod that goes from the engine bellcrank to bellhousing pivot different between the 4bbl and 6bbl?
I'm thinking of putting my six pack setup on my Daytona and need at the very least, the carb rod. It was previously on a 4-speed car of mine, so I didn't need to worry about that. Now I have an automatic.
Thanks.. Troy

...the one coming down from the carb is longer from it's 4bbl brother.
I was under the impression it was shorter (6bbl). I measured my 4bbl and it was 9" from tip to tip whereas my friend's carb rod on his '70 v-code was 8". If we're talking about the same thing here, the rod from the throttle arm to engine kickdown bellcrank.

strange...I have one off a 440 4bl car and the rod from the pivot to the trans is a little short, I had to extend it some to make it work. It would get hung up. I'll measure it when I get home if you like. The throttle bracket assembly is higher than a 4bbl so I'd think that rod would need to be longer????
Ahh, ok, then we're talking too different things. Yes, I agree that the bellcrank on a 6bbl is higher than a 4bbl, hence causing the operational length of the tranny rod to be longer.
What I was referring to was the horizontal rod from the carb throttle lever to the bellcrank. I believe that's an inch shorter and doesn't have the pronounced bend as with the 4bbl version.
So, I guess you've answered my question about the tranny rod, it needs to be longer on a 6bbl. If you can measure it, that would be great.
guess now I need to find someone that has both used for sale or sells a reproduction.

get ready for sticker shock... they are around $200 I used the stock 4bbl from the carb rod to throttle bracket. It has aton of adjustment. You can always cut some of the treads off and re-thread yours.
I saw that earlier !!!! Whew... and to think, all I need are the two rods. I have enough 4bbl rods I can make my own 6bbl pair if push comes to shove.
Thanks again.

the one from the bellcrank to the carb is different and it is available in reproduction , though you might have to buy a complete kit

The throttle cable is a different length as well but you can get it to work.
yes I'm not sure what the cable in my car is form but it works as well. The one that came w/ the kit is the square "push in" style and my pedal has the round ball style.

yeah, the cable will work. I've used it before on my '69 Charger 500 when I had the six pack on it.
Thanks. Troy.

If you have a hack saw and a set of thread dies it's pretty easy to shorten wink wink. I'm restoring a non numbers matchine 70 Bee and sticker shock was shocking.
