Would it be a problem for me to take the oil pump apart and clean it in the parts washer? Are there gaskets, etc in there that would have to be replaced?

On bigblock there are 2 O-rings so keep them out of the solvent. When you have it apart de-burr the rough edges and polish the rough castings.

I agree. I am a big block guy, and those oil pumps are easy to take apart and put back together, nothing special. Just a couple O-rings.
